Holy Spirit Control

Prayer: Father, You provide lessons through the lives of families throughout Scripture. Examples of how to or not to live life together. Help me to learn today, how to live together in peace. Amen.

Reading: 1 Samuel 19 key: vs. 1-3 & 11-12 “Now Saul told his son Jonathan and all his courtiers to kill David. But Saul’s son Jonathan delighted much in David. So Jonathan informed David saying, “My father Saul is seeking to kill you. So now, please be on guard in the morning, and stay in a secret place and hide yourself. I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you will be, and I will speak with my father about you. If I notice anything, I will tell you.”

“Then Saul sent agents to David’s house to watch him, in order to kill him in the morning. But David’s wife Michal warned him saying, “If you don’t escape for your life tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!” So Michal lowered David down through the window, and thus he went, fled and escaped. TLV

Attention: There is an old saying, “Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer.” According to Answers.com they suggest that “Some believe it was Sun-Tzu, a Chinese general and military strategist (c. 500 BC). However, his quotation was different. He said, ”Know your enemy and know yourself and you will always be victorious.”

In Saul’s household, both his son Jonathan and his daughter Michal, who is married to David, betray their father and assist David in eluding their father’s attempts on David’s life. Considering family dynamics, I would call this providential protection from the One who chose David to be anointed as the successor to Saul.

God caused the affection of David by Jonathan and Michal to provide a safety net of protection. Saul gave his daughter to David to be a “snare” (1 Samuel 18:21). Even the agents sent by Saul and later Saul himself, came under the power of the Holy Spriit when approaching David.  However, jealousy of David overpowers Saul, along with an evil spirit sent from God. Having driven David off, Saul has now forfeited the comfort David’s music brought him.

Action: I choose today to respect God’s anointed and not to be jealous of what God is accomplishing through them.

Yield: I choose to yield to God’s plan for my life.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in leading a quiet life.

Relationship: I choose today to live in communion with the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, I embrace Your providential protection of those You have anointed. May I not know jealousy over someone’s prophetic anointing. I pray for seer giftings which give interpretation to dreams and visions. Amen.

Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 24:6 “So he said to his fellow men, “Adonai forbid that I should do such a thing to my lord, Adonai’s anointed, stretching out my hand against him—for he is Adonai’s anointed.” TLV
