Prayer: Father, I pray for Your guidance in my writing today. Thank You for orchestrating my steps and intentionally, purposefully bringing my paths to cross with people of faith and people who are seeking You. I am Your bond-slave. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 56 key: vs. 10-12
10 Then my enemies will turn back in the day I call.
This I know—that God is for me.
11 In God—I keep praising His word—
in Adonai—I keep praising His word—
12 in God I trust, I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
Attention: Did you observe the key information contained in vs. 1? When was this “Michtam” written? “When the Philistines had seized him (David) in Gath.” If you want a full description of David’s encounter with the Philistines in Gath, please read 1 Samuel 21:11- 22:2. David used unconventional means to avoid capture.
I researched on the internet a definition of the Hebrew term “Michtam” and here is what the Easton Bible dictionary says, “The Easton’s Bible Dictionary says of Michtam i.e., “a poem or song found in the titles of Psalm 16. Some translate the word “golden”, i.e., precious. It is rendered in the LXX. by a word meaning “tablet inscription” or a “stelograph.” The root of the word means to stamp or grave, and hence it is regarded as denoting a composition so precious as to be worthy to be engraved on a durable tablet for preservation; or, as others render, “a psalm precious as stamped gold,” from the word kethem , “fine or stamped gold.”
So, David has chronicled his encounter with the Philistines, a neighboring, historic enemy to Israel throughout the Old Testament. The benefit of this writing is captured in his statement, “This I know—God is for me. In God—I keep praising His Word—In Adonai—I keep praising His Word—in God I trust, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” David was praising God for deliverance from his enemy.
Is there an enemy which God has “delivered” you from? Has He delivered you from sin, from alcohol or drugs, from an eating disorder, from an overbearing boss, from death, from a deadly disease, or an unhealthy relationship? Our enemies come in many forms and God is a God of “deliverance.” I declare deliverance over your life today, in Jesus’ name.
Action: I praise You, Adonai, for delivering me today from myself in the form of 30+ lbs. And changing my eating lifestyle.
Yield: I am yielded when I cry to You for deliverance from evil in all forms.
Engage: I am engaging with the Holy Spirit when I cry for deliverance.
Relationship: I am engaged with the Holy Spirit when I surrender to His deliverance.
Prayer: Father, I do not have to be held captive any longer. Deliverance is Your strength. All I need to do is to cry out to You and You spring into action! Amen.
