Prayer: Father, I stand amazed in Your presence. That You cared so deeply for me that You have created me, that I am part of Your splendor. You value me so much that You sent Yeshua Messiah, Your only Son to earth with a plan and purpose to redeem me. Thank You, in Jesus’ name, amen. Reading: Psalm 8 key: vs. 4-5 4 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You established— 5 what is man, that You are mindful of him? And the son of man, that You care for him? Attention: I love how the psalmist today captures the essence of man to God and His creation. “What is man, that You are mindful of him?” I had the honor of singing a solo in a youth musical in the mid-seventies by either Otis Skillings or Ralph Carmichael which captured this passage excellently. I searched for it but came up blank. It must have been one of their more obscure compositions. The lyrics went: “O God of the stars, the sun and the moon; O God of the wind and the seas. Though You’re everywhere, how amazing it is, that You could be here right now. The uncharted craters of planets beyond, You know like the palm of Your hand. Yet nothing can change the promise You made, O help me to understand. I know that miracles happen to people like me, the moment we dare to believe. For we are the object of God’s mighty plan, much greater than our little mind can conceive. Well, the stars could collide, the sun could grow dim, this whole universe pass away, yet nothing can change the promise He made, and Christ in my life will stay.” I hope you will ponder how great God is in not only making the stars and planets but the personal nature of God that He made man to fellowship with Him. I am going to post two songs today, one from the past and one from the present. If you are familiar with the name George Beverly Shea, you know that he was the featured soloist for the Billy Graham Crusades for many years. He popularized several songs, but none more so than, How Great Thou Art. Recently a husband-and-wife team from Ireland, The Getty’s (Keith & Kristyn) did a series of concerts in the USA. They wrote and popularized a hymn in 2001 titled, In Christ Alone. They have another composition which I want to share with you today. Be blessed as music is such an important dimension to our worship of God. Action: I will establish a new atmosphere of worship music in my home and car starting today! Yield: A yielded life is a praising life. Engaged: I am engaged with God when I sing to Him. Relationship: I am reminded of God’s attributes when I read His Word and play music of faith in my home and car. Prayer: Father, I praise You for the work of Your fingers, the moon, and the stars and yes, me (man). I thank You for Your mindfulness to me! Amen. Memory Verse: Psalm 8:10 10 Adonai our Lord, how excellent is Your Name over all the earth! Music Video: Keith & Kristyn Getty – Consider the Stars, George Beverly Shea – How Great Thou Art |
