How much does your heart weigh?

Prayer: Father, I know that You look upon the heart. I am glad that it is You who does the measuring, weighing, and the judging. For You alone are both just and merciful. Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 21 key: 1-2
A king’s heart is like a stream of water in the hand of Adonai;
he directs it wherever He wants.[a]
All a man’s ways seem right in his own eyes,
but Adonai weighs the heart.

Attention: As a child, did you ever play in the dirt? Kids seem to love to play in the dirt. If they have pails and scoops, trucks, a grader, add a little imagination, you can build all kinds of things. If you add a little water, you can make pools or streams.

My family always had a garden while I was a child. Gardens require constant care from soil preparation, planting, weeding, and watering. A garden provides lots of dirt to play in between rows or on the edges.

Solomon compares a king’s heart to a stream of water. He was a king, so he would know. His analogy reminds me that God is in control of my life, and even a king’s heart.

Yesterday I focused on the verse in Chapter 20, where Solomon declared, “A man’s steps are directed by Adonai.” Today, he confirms that just as God directs the steps of man, He directs the hearts of man, even a king.

This awareness gives me confidence that in prayer, I can ask God to direct the heart of a king or a president, asking for God to direct his heart where He wants.

I hope this awareness gives you confidence to pray for certain outcomes. We see, in the Old Testament, the influence of Daniel, Esther, Samuel, and Elijah, upon the hearts of kings and You divinely averted the destruction of Your people.

We have the authority to do the same in our culture and our day. We need only to call upon the One who can direct the king’s heart and heal us and our land. Remember, it is Adonai who weighs the heart. How much does your heart weigh?

Action: I will call upon the Lord, who weighs my heart and directs all men’s hearts.

Yield: I am yielding when I call upon Adonai to direct my steps and the king’s heart.

Engage: When I call upon Adonai, I am engaging Him in the affairs of men.

Relationship: God weighs my heart.

Prayer: Father, You alone have the power to direct the hearts of all people, even kings. I call on You today to direct the heart of our President toward Your desired outcome. May he bow his knee to You. In the name of Yeshua, amen.

Memory Verse: 2 Chronicles 7:11-16

11 Thus Solomon finished the House of Adonai and the king’s palace. Indeed, all that Solomon had on his heart to accomplish in the House of Adonai and in his own palace, he successfully completed.

12 Then Adonai appeared to Solomon at night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself for a House of sacrifice. 13 If I shut up heaven that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 when My people, over whom My Name is called, humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. 16 For now I have chosen and consecrated this House so that My Name may be there forever. My eyes and My heart shall be there perpetually.
