How Much is Required?

Prayer: Father if I will only listen and obey Your commandments. Life goes better when I trust and obey. Amen.

Reading: Deuteronomy 26 key: vs. 16-17
16 “This day Adonai your God is commanding you to do these statutes and ordinances—so you are to take care and do them with all your heart and with all your soul. 17 Today you have affirmed Adonai as your God, that you will walk in His ways, keep His statutes, mitzvot and ordinances, and listen to His voice.

Attention: God has a way to take care of everyone including the widow, orphan, the outsider (what we would call non-US citizens, and Levites (priests). There was to be the first fruits and tithes of all grain, grapes (wine), and herd & flocks every year. In combination, the ten percent tithe kept those in need and the priests fed and cared for. In the third year, tithes and first fruits of everything were to be placed in a basket and given to the priest for distribution. The tithe and first fruit were requirements given (mandated) by God for the care of widows, orphans, outsiders, and Levites (priests).

Notice, it was direct contribution. The tithe was to be placed in a basket and delivered to the Levite for those within the community (tribe) who were listed by Adonai as those who were in need.

Notice too, that Moses not only introduced the tithe and first fruits, but He also led them in affirming the Covenant which Adonai had made with them. In our key verse today, notice the similarity of the New Covenant which Yeshua declares in Matthew 22:37, “You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The similarity is striking! Moses too said, “so you are to take care and do them with all your heart and with all your soul.”

The common operative word in both commands is “all.” How much is all? Is all ten percent? I ask myself when I read these two commandments, am I giving my all? I invite you to investigate your heart today and begin giving Him your all.

Action: I choose to give God my all beginning today!

Yield: I choose to yield my heart, mind, and soul totally to God.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in giving my all to Adonai.

Relationship: I choose to be in a Spirit-filled relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I desire to give You my all, body, mind, and soul. Amen.

Memory Verse: Matthew 22: 37-40
37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  40 The entire Torah and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
