Prayer: Father, You know the beginning from the end and all the in-between. For You are all-knowing. Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans that I have in mind for you,” declares Adonai, “plans for shalom and not calamity—to give you a future and a hope. “Then you will call on Me, and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me, when you will search for Me with all your heart.” TLV
Attention: It is interesting to me that as New Testament or New Advent followers of Yeshua, we selectively pick verses which fit our narrative or belief. I have heard many of faith quote this passage and embrace a character of Adonai, but not embrace the full context.
Jeremiah has just communicated Adonai’s declaration that He would bring them back to Israel and restore them. During the time of captivity, they were to build homes, have children, and “multiply.” While Adonai gives the people of exile a hope, He also provides a warning, “Do not let your prophets who are among you or your diviners beguile you and pay no attention to the dreams which you make them keep dreaming. For they prophesy falsely to you in My Name; I have not sent them.” It is a declaration of Adonai (vs. 8-9).”
Adonai is warning them not to listen to prophets other than Jeremiah, nor are they to listen to “diviners” who (beguile) charm, trick, or deceive you. Diviners are associated with the occult and are opposed to Adonai (God).
Who we listen to is important. Are we being charmed, tricked, and/or deceived in our common era? Are there real prophets of God? Are there false prophets?
May we heed the words of Paul in Ephesians 6. The warfare we enter is not “against flesh and blood against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Action: I choose to embrace the declarations of Adonai.
Yield: I choose to submit to the authority and supremacy of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in a lifestyle of holiness with Adonai.
Relationship: I choose to live in obedient relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the discernment of the Spirit so as not to be beguiled by false prophets or false spirits. Amen.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:11-12 “Put on the full armor of God, so that you are able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” TLV
