If he is a god

Prayer: Father, I am ready to meet with You. I am prepared to be taught by Your Spirit and receive new revelation from Your Word. Amen.

Reading: Judges 6 key: verse 31-32 “But Joash said to all who stood against him, “So you’re going to defend Baal? You’re going to rescue him? Whoever defends him will be put to death in the morning! If he is a god, let him defend himself—since someone has broken down his altar.” So on that day he was called Jerubbaal saying, “Let Baal contend with him, since he broke down his altar.” TLV

Attention: Have you ever been tagged with a biblical character’s name? I have. I carried my Bible to school and to classes in high school. I became known as Moses because of the witness of carrying the scriptures. Just that act of carrying my Bible led to opportunities to share Yeshua (Jesus). It also led to a conferred blessing, as I was selected to read scripture at my graduation’s baccalaureate service.

There was a downside though. As with most high school graduations, alcohol fueled celebrations are unfortunate parts of graduation. Word got to me that a planned kegger was busted by police and I was the suspected snitch. One of the organizers approached me, blaming me for the bust. I laughed and said, “I find this interesting since I was not invited to your party. How would I know about your party?” He seemed to agree with the wisdom of my response as he turned and walked away.

At Gideon’s obedience to tear down his father’s altar to Baal, the surrounding community called for Gideon’s death. I love the wisdom of Gideon’s father (Joash) in responding to the lynch mob, “So you’re going to defend Baal? You’re going to rescue him? Whoever defends him will be put to death in the morning! If he is a god, let him defend himself—” He reversed the cards on the mob. No one arose to defend Baal. However, they gave Gideon the name Jerubbaal, meaning “Baal judges.”

All we need to do is to read the rest of the story. Which God prevailed? Adonai prevailed in the ensuing battles in which Gideon was commanded to engage. Adonai will continue to be faithful.

Action: I choose to embrace Adonai who is faithful and has been faithful historically and will continue to be faithful eternally.

Yield: I choose to yield to the supremacy of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in exposing evil.

Relationship: I choose to stay in an intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, Your Word says you will keep in perfect peace he who has his mind stayed on You. Surround me, indwell me. Amen.

Memory verse: Isaiah 26:3 “You keep in perfect peace one whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” TLV
