Prayer: Father, I am thankful for Your instruction given to me through Your Word. I am ready to receive. Open my eyes, heart, and mind. Amen.
Reading: Isaiah 8 key: vs. 11-12 “For thus Adonai spoke to me, with a strong hand, warning me that I should not walk in the way of these people, saying: “Do not say: ‘It’s a conspiracy!’ about everything that these people call a conspiracy. You must not fear or tremble at what they fear.” TLV
Attention: How contemporary it is to find the word “conspiracy” in scripture? The advice the Adonai gives Isaiah is priceless.
There are only two sides to the narrative, God’s take and the world’s spin. Which narrative are we going to listen to?
Adonai tells Isaiah, everything we need to know. Proper fear is fear of Adonai (vs. 14). He will be a Sanctuary to us. What is a “sanctuary?” A sanctuary is a safe, holy place where those who are His, are hidden in Him.
Adonai tells us that Immanuel will be a “stone of stumbling and a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel (vs. 14).” Immanuel is a stone of stumbling to all who reject Him. Much of the world will embrace a concept of a god, an all-powerful being. But the truth that Immanuel alone is God? Not so much.
While Adonai tells Isaiah these words about proper fear, Yeshua tells His disciples, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna (Matthew 10:28).” We hear a consistent narrative from the Supreme, fear God.
If you are His disciple, I encourage you today to embrace and live the truth of instruction given by Adonai to Isaiah, fear God. Proper fear is wisdom and life.
Action: I choose to fear God, who has the power over life and death.
Yield: I choose to submit my heart to God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the help of the Holy Spirit in giving God proper fear.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Holy God.
Prayer: Father, there is no other way but Your way. There is no other word but Your Word. May I listen and obey Your instruction. For in Your words are the words of Life. Amen.
