Justice in Life

Prayer: Father, justice is a hot issue in today’s American culture. Help us to sort out from Your Word principles for justice. Amen.

Reading: Deuteronomy 25 key: vs. 1
“Suppose there is a dispute between people and they approach the court, the judges hear their case, and declare one righteous and the other guilty.

Attention: Might we be able to agree that justice can only be established by One who is just and relegated through a court system which operates by just guidelines, standards or law. Adonai is the just One, the Torah is His Law written in the Pentateuch (the first five book so the scriptures) and His supreme judgement will be adjudicated by Yeshua, the King of Kings.

If you need to confirm or establish that Adonai is just, let’s allow scripture give confirmation. Moses is the author of the Pentateuch and Deuteronomy is the fifth and final book of the Law, the Torah. In wrapping up the Pentateuch, he declares, “For I will proclaim Adonai’s Name, ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock—blameless is His work. Indeed, all His ways are just. God of faithfulness without iniquity, righteous and upright (just) is He (Deuteronomy 32:4).” One who is not “just” cannot establish justice.

What Moses is saying, God (Adonai) is just, and it is He who has established justice on the earth. Will man be just with His fellow man? If we follow His ways, we have a chance at administering justice on the earth. The prophet Micah says this, “He has told you, humanity, what is good, and what Adonai is seeking from you: Only to practice justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).”

We have assignments to be holy, seek righteousness, to do justice and love mercy. The prophet Isaiah declares, “Learn to do good, seek justice, relieve the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).”

Allow me to add a New Testament declaration by Yeshua and documented by Matthew, “So in all things, do to others what you would want them to do to you—for this is the Torah and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12).”

A couple of quick observations about Jesus’ declaration. It is simple! There is no race, gender reference, cultural or financial distinctions made in His statement. We are to simply do unto others, what we would want done to us. Treat each other as you want to be treated.

Lastly, Jesus references the Torah. He reaches back to the Law give to Moses by Adonai His father. Jesus declares, this is the heart or essence of the Torah. If you want to fulfill the Law today, do this. Treat each other the way you want to be treated.

Action: I choose to embrace the Golden rule as the lifestyle I want to use in my life, home, and work.

Yield: I choose to live my life before God as embracing the Golden Rule.

Engage: I choose to engage with Adonai in applying the Golden Rule.

Relationship: I choose to live by the standards which a just God gave to me to live by.

Prayer: Father, I choose to apply Your standard of love and justice to my life, family, friends, and everyone I encounter. Help me to live by Your standards of love and justice. Amen.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 1: 17
17 Learn to do good,
    seek justice, relieve the oppressed,
defend the orphan,
    plead for the widow.”
