Prayer: Father, I praise You this morning! I call upon Your name in prayer. It is You, Adonai, that I pray to and no other god. I rejoice in You as I recount Your faithfulness to me, Your glory, and remember Your works. Thank You for another day with You. Amen.

1 Praise Adonai, call upon His Name.
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him—
tell about all His wonders!
3 Glory in His holy Name.
Let the heart of those who seek Adonai rejoice.
Attention: I am reminded through today’s scheduled reading of the rich history of the hymns which were a part of church worship in the past. The value of hymnology was they taught us about God and His character. They provided us a theological foundation for knowing about God. The transition to the worship songs of today help us establish a personal expression of our love for God but sacrifice the rich harmonies which hymns created, (most worship songs today only have a melody line) and hymns taught us the theology of who God is, while teaching us how to read music from a score, rather than a screen. We have become weak in theology and musicianship as a result.
The psalmist today recounts the miracles and works of Adonai from Abraham through to Moses. He is remembering and reminding the Hebrew nation of their history based in Adonai. Notice the details of the Exodus as he documents the ten plagues and the flight from Egypt. Why does he remind them? History is important and tells future generations about their heritage, their roots, and reminds us of who God is and not to follow the path of our forefathers. There is a saying which states, “If you don’t know history, you are sure to repeat it.” The Bible even states the purpose of the Bible, “Now these things happened to them as an example, and it was written down as a warning to us—on whom the ends of the ages has come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).
If we do not study the Bible, we will be ignorant of the things which God is trying to warn us about in His Word. We do not know, what we do not know. A sermon or a devotional is not going to provide you with the instruction we desperately need. Please consider making the Choose Life study plan your daily go to source for Biblical instruction.
