Prayer: Father, surrender is against my natural character. Yet surrender is what You call for in my walk with You. I surrender to Your Lordship today anew. Amen.
Reading: Jeremaih 38 key: vs. 1-2 “Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchiah heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying, thus says Adonai: “He that remains in this city will die by the sword, by famine, and by plague, but anyone who goes out to the Chaldeans will live—so he will keep his life like the spoils of war, and will live.” TLV
Attention: Patrick Henry is credited for saying, “Give me liberty or give me death.” Most patriots would embrace this slogan. It was not in the vocabulary of Israel, the Hebrew nation, when Jeremiah declares to them the word of the Lord, “Anyone who goes out (surrenders) to the Chaldeans will live.”
Jeremiah’s declaration caused quite a stir and nearly got him killed. It did land him in a miry, mud-filled pit. The charge was not only of being a traitor, but “he demoralizes the men of war remaining in this city as well as all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the shalom of this people, but calamity (vs.4).”
What Adonai was telling the people through Jeremiah was this, you can fight against my declared judgement through the Chaldeans and die by the “sword, by famine, and by plague,” or you can surrender and live.
When we are born again into Christ, we have chosen to surrender our lives to His Lordship. We have chosen to follow Him and no longer do life our way. We can rail against the judgement of God (death) or we can surrender and live. Just as in Jeremiah’s day, death and life is a choice.
Action: I choose to live my life under the Lordship of Yeshua Messiah.
Yield: I choose to surrender my life to Messiah.
Engage: I choose to engage with Messiah in the Spirit of Adonai.
Relationship: I choose to live in relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I choose today to live in surrender to Your will for my life. Use me as an instrument of Your grace and mercy. Amen.
Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 30:19-20 ““I call the heavens and the earth to witness about you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live, by loving Adonai your God, listening to His voice, and clinging to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell on the land that Adonai swore to your fathers—to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob—to give them.” TLV
