Halleluyah!
Attention: Have you ever considered or discussed the topic of “lovingkindness”? As an alum of Biola University I was gifted a book which was authored by President Barry Corey titled, Love Kindness: Discover the Power of a Forgotten Christian Virtue.
What the book revealed to me was that we need to have a strong core or center in our belief system with soft edges. Here is what J.P. Moreland, Distinguished professor of Philosophy at Biola University says of Love Kindness. “For Corey, kindness is not niceness, adopting a position of compromise, or an expression of a desire to be received. Rather, it is having a firm center and soft edges, it is learning to be receivable, and it is learning to dialog with those with whom we disagree with kindness in the way of Jesus. The number of issues that divide us is multiplying each day.”
Do we ever see a greater need to exercise love kindness than today where so much polarization has brought division to the body of Christ and to our nation? Currently it is more convenient to shout any opposition down.
Lovekindness is defined as tenderness and consideration towards others. The word is mentioned some 177 times in the Bible. Of those 177 times, 134 times lovekindness is found in the Psalms and it is exclusively found in the Old Testament. How timely is this book which was copyrighted in 2016. I encourage you to consider Love Kindness for your personal library.
Action: I will incorporate a biblical love kindness into my core belief system.
Yield: I will practice love kindness into my lifestyle as a character of Adonai.
Engage: I will engage in love kindness as a lifestyle of my character.
Relationship: I emulate Adonai when I demonstrate a lifestyle of love kindness towards others.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the reminder of Your lovingkindness towards me. May I be quick to emulate You in loving kindness towards others. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 136 *if you memorize this line: “for His lovingkindness endures forever” you have memorized half of this Psalm.
