Prayer: Father, I love You and how You include music in the Psalms. I love how music leads me to worship You. It stirs my heart and helps me express the emotions of my heart towards You. Amen. Reading: Psalm 12 key: vs. 1 & 7 1 For the music director, on the eight-string lyre, a psalm of David. 7 The words of Adonai are pure words— like silver refined in an earthly crucible, purified seven times. Attention: I hope you have noticed in just the first twelve Psalms, that the first verse has told us the musical instruments being used with this psalm. Such instruments as: stringed instruments (Psalm 4), wind instruments (Psalm 5), eight-string lyre (Psalm 6), Gittite lyre (Psalm 8), and eight-string lyre (Psalm 12). Adonai has an orchestra full of instruments when you include horns, trumpets, and loud crashing cymbals. We pass right over this but in most of the Psalms the first verse says, “For the music director.” Direction is being given on what instruments and tunes to be used for the psalm. Yet the instrument that God created when He created man is the best of the instruments. All the various timbres and ranges of the human voice in male and female registers. I have experienced singing with trained, professional singers in a choir setting and it is euphoric. There is an energy and synergy of sound which you do not experience in any other setting. Much worship and praise music are derived from the Psalms, some word for word. Watch for the lyrics of praise songs we sing as we continue our study through the Psalms. The songs and the psalm they are based on will have deeper meaning to you. Action: I will sing to Adonai the praises of His Psalms. Yield: I am yielded when my eyes are off me and placed fully on Him. Engaged: I am fully engaged with my whole heart when I praise Adonai. Relationship: My worship is vertical! To God alone! Prayer: Father, Your instruction is found in the very last verse of the final Psalm, “Let everything that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!” Memory Verse: Psalm 150: 3-6 3 Praise Him with the blast of the shofar. Praise Him with harp and lyre. 4 Praise Him with tambourine and dance. Praise Him with string instruments and flute. 5 Praise Him with clash of cymbals. Praise Him with resounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!
