Prayer: Father, thank You for Your supernatural provision which I take for granted. You have been so good to me, so good to me. Amen.
Reading: Exodus 16:1-2
They journeyed on from Elim, and the entire community of Bnei-Yisrael came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after leaving the land of Egypt. 2 But the whole congregation of Bnei-Yisrael murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
Attention: Have you ever been around someone who complained constantly? If it wasn’t the weather, they would find something else to murmur, complain, or whine about.
Today we are told about a supernatural provision of Adonai which, when it appeared on the ground, the people said, “What is it?” We do not know exactly what manna was composed of. Since Adonai had declared “I will rain bread from heaven for you,” speculation is that this supernatural provision was composed of grain. I would suggest that it was a perfect food, superior in every way to anything that we cook up or prepare.
Notice the instructions for collecting manna was daily, except on the sixth day when you collect a double portion so that no collection was done on Shabbat (Sabbath). The amount was an omer for each person (portion control). The supernatural character of manna was also shown in the shelf life. Any extra manna on the daily basis went bad. On the sixth and seventh days, the manna was preserved, it didn’t spoil.
Did you catch the command of Adonai to Moses and Aaron? “Let a full omer of it (manna) be kept throughout generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Egypt (vs. 32).” We will see later that this jar of manna was placed into the Ark of the Covenant. We are not told that they had to do a canning process to preserve the manna. I believe that if the ark of the Covenant was to be found today, that the manna would be as fresh as day it was placed in the jar. Adonai preserved it supernaturally for perpetuity, throughout generations.
We will explore the nature of man in future journals. Of special note, Adonai takes a personal afront to the murmuring, complaining, and grumbling of His people about His provision. Manna was given as a “test” to see if they would walk according to My (His) Torah or not.” Their grumbling and complaining along with their rebellious hearts cost them a 40-year sentence to the wilderness and non-entrance into the promised land. Adonai had to let that generation and their attitudes, die off. They had been so indoctrinated during their stay in Egypt, that Adonai would not allow them entrance into the promised land.
Let’s take a lesson from their stinkin’ thinkin’. Adonai’s Torah, even His new covenant is nothing to be messed with. Are you following the laws of Grace? How’s your attitude about His provisions? Are you suffering for the rebellion within your heart? Are you passing the test? Do you give Him the praise and glory?
Action: Father I declare a new lifestyle today forward of obedience toward You and Your laws.
Yield: I give my heart to You Lord.
Engage: I desire to walk and journey daily with the Holy Spirit.
Relationship: I am a child of God’s.
Prayer: Father, so many years of rebellion. My heart’s desire is to live for You! Amen.
Memory Verse: Revelation 2:17
17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Ruach is saying to Messiah’s communities. To the one who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone—and written on the stone a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.”
