Prayer: Father, may I seek and accept the wisdom of the psalmist today. May I be granted new insight into Your Word. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 128 key: vs. 1b-2
Happy is everyone in awe of Adonai,
who walks in His ways,
2 for you will eat the labor of your hands.
You will be blessed
and it will be good for you.
Attention: Have you ever been in awe of Adonai? The psalmist says today, “Happy is everyone in awe of Adonai.” In attempting to capture an image of awe, my first thought was the advertisements Disney used to have featuring a family entering the Magic Kingdom with their mouths open in awe and wonderment.
Here is an internet definition of awe: Awe is an emotion comparable to wonder but less joyous. On Robert Plutchik’s wheel of emotions awe is modeled as a combination of surprise and fear. One dictionary definition is “an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful, or the like: in awe of God.” Another dictionary definition is a “mixed emotion of reverence, respect, dread, and wonder inspired by authority, genius, great beauty, sublimity, or might.
Awestruck wonder is what I picture of the “myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands” of angels around the throne of the Lamb described in Revelation 5: 11-12. It is like they are beholding the most valuable of gems and in awe with every change of the brilliance of the facets as He moves.
Are you in awe of Yeshua today? In past chapters of Psalms, the same Hebrew word “yare” (translated as awe today) is also translated as: afraid (100x), awesome (22x), awesome acts, awesome things, became afraid, became frightened, cautious, dismayed, fear (166x), feared (38x), fearful, frightened, revere (10x), reverence, and terrifying.
Are you happy? Your attitude, your inner self will change when you strike an attitude of awe of Yeshua. A lifestyle of awe and “yare,” will result in blessings of family, labor, and life (vs. 2-3).
May we discover the fulness of “yare” in our lives today and as the psalmist concludes his chapter, “may you live to see your children’s children.”
Action: I want proper “yare” to be the extract of my life.
Yield: I submit in total reverence to Adonai.
Engage: Total ‘yare’ in to be engaged with Adonai.
Relationship: He is divine, I am di-branches.
Prayer: Father, I discover more about You every day from Your holy Word. I desire to know You more fully every day. Reveal to me the “yare” of Your being. In Yeshua, I pray, amen.
