Prayer: Father, may I always look to You first. Always! Amen.
Reading: Psalm 107 key: 1-5
1 Praise Adonai, for He is good,
for His lovingkindness endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of Adonai say so—
whom He redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 whom He gathered out of the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the sea.
4 Some wandered in a desert, a wasteland.
They found no way to an inhabited city.
5 Hungry and thirsty,
their souls ebbed away.
Attention: Is Adonai your go to source in times of trouble or need, or is He the last option? Is He your go to source regardless of the level of your need?
I encourage you to always look for repetition in a passage of scripture. Sometimes you need to read into another chapter. The thoughts of the writers continue beyond standard chapter demarcations. Four times today the writer of this psalm says, “So they cried out to Adonai in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles (vs. 6, 13, 19, 28).”
In each instance, Adonai responded with deliverance. When they cried out, Adonai was activated and delivered them. Why do we wait for the crisis point before we cry out? Do we have the attitude that this is too small to bother Adonai about? Do we have an attitude that I can do this on my own? Have you ever watched a toddler struggle with something, refusing to ask for help because they want to do it themselves?
The psalmist goes on to tell us all the actions Adonai took on their behalf. They all begin with “He …”, “spoke and raised, stilled the storm, turns rivers, turns a dessert, blessed them, pours contempt, lifts the needy high, and makes their families like a flock.” Do you want to activate Adonai to action? Are you in need? Cry out!
Action: Beginning today, I will cry out to Adonai when I am in crisis or need. May I learn to call out before I get to a crisis stage. Holy Spirit, teach me to reach out to You as my first call and not my last.
Yield: I am surrendered when I come to You first and only.
Engaged: I am in lock step with Adonai.
Relationship: Adonai is my strength and source in times of need.
Prayer: Father, I come to You. I run to You. You are my help in times of trouble. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 46:2
2 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
