Prayer: Father, my attitude is everything. Am I guilty of murmuring and complaining about the hardships of life? Open my eyes I pray. Amen.
Reading: Numbers 11 key: vs. 1
The people were murmuring in the ears of Adonai about hardship, and when Adonai heard, His anger burned. The fire of Adonai blazed among them, ravaging the outskirts of the camp.
Attention: I used to work with a Senior Pastor who used to sing the beginning of familiar spiritual titled, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen.” Most of us can identify with the sentiment of those words. Moses could. Not only did “the ears of Adonai” hear the murmuring, but Moses was also getting an earful too.
Please read the opening words of Numbers 11. Do you capture the gravity of offense which Adonai felt? This passage tells us that when “Adonai heard, His anger burned.” He was not only angry, but He also sent fire “among them, ravaging the outskirts of the camp.”
When I read this account, I immediately pictured the fires which mountainous areas of California have experienced over the past few years. The media pictures of the housing developments burnt to the ground looked more like war zone pictures of complete devastation.
The murmuring in Moses’ ears triggered him to despair for his own life (vs. 14-15). He was so depressed he asked Adonai to kill him.
Do we see our murmuring about life’s difficulties as an offense to God? What is the solution? The words of the apostle Matthew are written for times like these, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the pagans eagerly pursue all these things; yet your Father in heaven know that you need all these.” He has promised to provide for us. Do I trust Him? While being a corporate issue with the Hebrews, Yeshua has reduced our worry and concern to a personal level. Do I believe and trust Yeshua?
Do you see how offense murmuring is too Adonai? We are saying to His face, “I don’t believe You.” Maybe, we need to work on our attitude and confess our unbelief. This issue with the Hebrew nation was unbelief and yet Adonai was faithful time, after time, after time.
Action: I choose to keep my trust placed on Yeshua.
Yield: I choose to yield my attitude to Yeshua.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in changing my attitude from worry to gratitude.
Relationship: I choose to walk in step with the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, I give You all the praise. Thank You for revealing Your offense at my tendencies to murmur and complain. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 6: 31-34
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the pagans eagerly pursue all these things; yet your Father in heaven knows that you need all these. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
