My Portion, My Reward!

Prayer: Father, You are my refuge, my hiding place. Like David who hid in a cave, I hide in You today. It is rainy and dreary outside today. I am weary. So, I cocoon with You! I take refuge in You from the elements of life. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 142 key: vs. 2-4
I cry aloud with my voice to Adonai.
With my voice I seek favor from Adonai.
I pour out my complaint before Him,
before Him I tell my trouble.
When my spirit grows faint within me,
You know my path.
In the way where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.

Attention: Have you ever had one of those days or weekends when you just hunker down, stay inside, nap and take care of yourself? Perhaps you even stay in your lounge wear, never bothering to get dressed? It is just you and Adonai, coffee, a bowl of soup and meditation on His Word.

It is called restoration. We all need it from time to time. David is weary from being on the run. What have you been running from? Have you relapsed and run back to the familiar? Have you relapsed and returned to the former things you thought you had left behind? Did you say to yourself, like David, “no one cares for me… no one cares for my soul.”

Two different statements: One physical, one spiritual. One reminds us we feel alone in this world, while the other questions if there is a personal Sovereign. David answers both questions when He declares, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”

If you are a student of the Bible? Have you ever noticed anywhere in Scripture where they were told that Adonai was their portion? It is a fascinating observation in the apportionment of land to the tribes of Bnei-Yisrael (Children of Israel). Land was given to every tribe but one and we are told the reason for their exclusion in Joshua 18:7, “But the Levites have no portion among you—for the priesthood of Adonai is their inheritance.”

David was both a priest and a king. He was hiding in a cave because he had not ascended to his anointed positions, but he knew who he was in Adonai and he knew who Adonai was to him, his portion, his inheritance.

If you have chosen a life in Yeshua and you are following Him, He is your portion, your inheritance. He has redeemed you (bought you with the price of His blood), and He has promised you and me, that He is building a place for us, that where He is, we may be also (John 14:1-4).

Yeshua is my portion. He is my inheritance.

Action: I claim today that Yeshua is my portion and my inheritance.

Yield: I choose to give my heart, mind, and soul to Yeshua.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Living God.

Relationship: When I choose to engage with Adonai, He becomes my portion and inheritance.

Prayer: Father, I run to You and I hide in You. You are my portion and inheritance. Amen.

Memory Verse: Acts 17:28b
As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His offspring.
