Nineveh Believed God

Prayer: Father, give me ears to hear Your word of proclamation to all men. Amen.

Reading: Jonah 3 key: vs. 5 & 10 “Then the people of Nineveh believed God and called for a fast and wore sackcloth—from the greatest of them to the least of them.” And “When God saw their deeds—that they turned from their wicked ways—God relented from the calamity that He said He would do to them, and did not do it.” TLV

Attention: Jonah was not aligned with God. Three nights in the belly of a great fish persuaded him to go to Nineveh and proclaim God’s message, but He did not accept the grace of God’s message. Jonah wanted God to unleash His wrath on Nineveh. Jonah had no compassion on the people which God tells him in the next chapter, “So shouldn’t I have pity on Nineveh— the great city that has in it more than 120,000 people who don’t know their right hand from their left—as well as many animals (Jonah 4:10b)?”

Do we have the same compassion which God has on all men? If we do not, perhaps we have not experienced His compassion and forgiveness. True compassion and forgiveness can only come from one who has experienced God’s love and forgiveness.

Nineveh believed God and God saw it in their repentance and remorse for their sin. Only God can give forgiveness of sin. Only He as the Supreme Sovereign of the world, seeks to restore us to relationship with Him. It is our sin which creates the barriers between God and ourselves.

God has given us the same message to share with all men. He may not call us to Nineveh or the far reaches of the world, but we are called to tell our personal circle of influence. Just being obedient to our personal Jerusalem will take His word beyond the outer reaches of mankind. To share the message is evidence of our belief in and on God.

Action: I choose to believe God by living for Him and sharing His message of salvation and forgiveness of sins.

Yield: I choose to submit to the believing lifestyle of compassion and forgiveness.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in lifestyle of aligning with God.

Relationship: I choose to align with God’s message of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Prayer: Father, I have not been obedient to go and share the gospel of repentance for the forgiveness of sin. May I align myself with Your Word daily as I allow the Holy Spirit to transform my mind, heart, and soul.

Memory Verse: Romans 4:3 “For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” TLV
