Reading: Isaiah 21 key: vs. 6 “For Adonai has said to me. “Go, post a watchman— let him declare what he sees! TLV
Attention: In the Old Testament, a watchman was posted upon a wall to watch for danger and alert those within the walls, of the danger of an approaching enemy. According to the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, “Israel’s prophets saw themselves as watchmen warning the nation of God’s approaching judgement if the people did not repent (pg.1660).”
Prophets were God’s mouth pieces. They spoke the authoritative word which God had given them. Their role was to alert individuals, kings, or nations to their judgement regarding their actions toward God and against His Law. No one likes to hear bad news or to be called on the carpet for their behavior; however, in obedience to God, the prophets deliver the message.
Today, we have prophets who deliver the same message of impending judgement if a nation, individual, or people do not repent and change their ways. They may be a pastor, evangelist, a seer, or a prophet, all participating in the role of a prophet. In the end times, the role of prophet is to escalate or increase according to Acts 2:17-18. Are we prepared to receive the messages of God from those who by the Spirit of God are compelled to declare His message? Or are we going to be like the Hebrew forefathers who beat and killed the prophets?
The gift of prophecy is active and being activated with the pouring out of the Ruach of God. One of the purposes of prophecy is to be a watchman to us, alerting us to an approaching enemy or approaching judgement. Prophets are guardians of our souls.
I encourage you to pray for prophets who are watchmen over your soul. For prophets who will be obedient to declare the message God has given them and the courage to deliver it to the appropriate nation or people.
I would have benefitted years ago, if someone who had the gift of prophecy had called me on the carpet about my behavior. It is not the responsibility of the prophet how the recipient responds. It Is the prophet’s responsibility to be obedient to Adonai. Pray for God-planned appointments with those who are gifted as His prophetic messengers.
Action: I choose to accept the prophetic gifting of those gifted by God for my benefit.
Yield: I choose to submit to the prophetic gifting which God according to His will.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in acknowledging the office of prophet.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, may I honor those to whom You have called to certain roles, to benefit Your kingdom congregation. Thank You for those who instruct, teach, and herald Your prophetic message of warning. Amen.
