Prayer: Father, You are Potter, I am the clay. Make me into the vessel You want me to be. I am Yours to do with as You please. Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 18 key: vs. 7-10 “At one moment I may speak about a nation or about a kingdom, to uproot, to pull down or to destroy it. But if that nation turns from their evil, because of what I have spoken against it, I will relent concerning the calamity that I planned to do to it. Or at another time I may speak about a nation or about a kingdom, to build up or to plant it. But if it does evil in My sight, not listening to My voice, then I will relent of the good that I had said I would do to it.” TLV
Attention: I have never experienced working with clay on a potter’s wheel. I have been to pottery houses which displayed finished work, along with seconds which had some flaws. Ged had an object lesson for Jeremiah to learn. God displayed His sovereignty as the Potter. He alone determines who He raises into prominence and who he tears down. He works the same with nations.
I referenced Jonah yesterday. He was task with going to Nineveh with God’s message of repentance. Reluctantly, Jonah goes to Nineveh and delivers God’s message. To his dismay, Nineveh repents, and God relents.
How many times have you heard people (Christians) proclaim, “God is on our side!” Think about the errancy of this thought. What does John 3:16 proclaim? God loves all people. Our alignment should be, I am on God’s side. I stand with God.
With Jeremiah, he obediently delivers God’s message to Israel, but is told he is not to pray for his people. By this time in Jeremiah’s story, his life is being threatened and he now proclaims, “Yet You know their whole plot, Adonai, against me to slay me. Do not forgive their iniquity or blot out their sin before You. But make them stumble before You. Act against them in the time of Your anger (vs.23). Now, Jeremiah is fully aligned with God.
Historically, America has been considered a Christian nation. We may have been. We certainly have experienced God’s blessing. However, let us understand that God raises up and tears down nations which forsake Him. His judgement comes upon any nation which turns away from Him. Let us affirm our resolve to stand with God and His word (Torah).
Action: I choose to stand with God and His word.
Yield: I choose to submit to the Word of God.
Engage: I choose to engage with Holy Spirit in aligning myself with God.
Relationship: I choose to live in obedience to Adonai.
Prayer: Father, may we choose to align ourselves with Your Word and Your ways. May I be conformed to Your image Lord and transformed by the renewing of my mind. Amen.
Memory verse: Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” TLV
