Prayer: Father, when I ask for prayer, may I be willing to receive the answer, and willing to obey. Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 42 key: vs. 5-6 “Then they said to Jeremiah: “Let Adonai be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accord with every word that Adonai your God sends you to us. Whether it be good or evil, we will obey the voice of Adonai our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us, when we obey the voice of Adonai our God.” TLV
Attention: I have many times asked for prayer for health, times of trouble, and times of indecision. Several times, I have sought an anointed follower of Adonai for a prophetic word. I do not recall ever approaching a prophet for a word in which prior to receiving the word, declared my obedience to the word whether good or bad.
Jeremiah documents that “all the people from the least to the greatest, approached” him, seeking a directional word from Adonai. Do we flee to Egypt or not. Corporately, they declared their willingness to obey God’s word through Jeremiah.
Yet, upon receiving God’s word ten days later, they corporately rebelled and Jeremiah prophesied their future. “So I have this day declared it to you, but you will not obey the voice of Adonai your God in anything for which He has sent me to you. Now therefore know for sure that you will die by the sword, by famine, and by plague, in the place whither you desired to go to sojourn there (Jeremiah 42:21-22).”
The questions I ask myself, am I as hardheaded and hard hearted as the people who came to Jeremiah seeking a word, yet unwilling to listen? Am I self-deceived? Have I already determined what I am going to do before I ask the Lord? Is asking the Lord only a courtesy?
May we be people of our word.
Action: I choose to be a person of my word, to God and to man.
Yield: I choose to submit to the Sovereignty of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in being a person of my word.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the examples of scripture which serve to be lessons in obedience and disobedience. May I be a person of my word, both to You and all people. Amen.
Memory Verse: Jacob (James) 5:12 “But above all, my dear brothers and sisters, do not swear—either by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath. But let your “yes” be “yes,” and your “no,” be “no”—so that you may not fall under judgment.” TLV
