Prayer: Father, I have felt despair and hopelessness. I pray for those who feel hopeless today. May Your Word invade their despair and give them hope. In Yeshua’s name, amen.
Reading: Psalm 102 Key vs. 18
18 He has turned to the prayer of the destitute,
and has not despised their prayer.
Attention: I am reflecting today on those who have been or are experiencing incarceration. Over the years I have met people who have spent time in prison. I have met people who have worked in prisons and persons who have coordinated prison ministry. We hear of people who are incarcerated unjustly which is nothing new. There were plenty of people mentioned in the Bible who were imprisoned unjustly.
Have you heard Joseph’s story? How about Yeshua? Or Paul? How about all the people Paul had imprisoned because they were Christ followers? Injustice is not a new theme, just repackaged and reframed. Have you ever read Hebrews 11:36, “Others experienced the rial of mocking and scourging—yes, and even chains and prison.”? (Consider reading the entire chapter to get the full context).
Not to minimize the despair you may be going through or the despair which the people mentioned in the scriptures, but the greater imprisonment is spiritual and not physical. For the spiritual has eternal implications and results. Our hope is in the resurrection of Yeshua. For He promises us that if He is resurrected, we too will be resurrected one day. Easter 2022 is celebrated this Sunday, April 17th. I pray that you are among those who can truly celebrate Easter. If not, today is the day of preparation, please ask Yeshua to be Lord of your life.
