Prayer: Father, prayer is the lifestyle of David which I desire to emulate. Teach me to pray as You taught the disciples of Yeshua. Amen.
Reading: 2 Samuel 16 key: vs. 1-2 “Now when David had passed a little beyond the summit, there was Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth to meet him with a pair of saddled donkeys, and on them 200 loaves of bread, 100 clusters of raisins, 100 fig cakes and a bottle of wine. So the king asked Ziba, “What are you doing with these?” Ziba said, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and the figs are for the young men to eat, and the wine is for anyone who faints in the wilderness to drink.” TLV
Attention: Have you ever felt that the whole world was against you? Nothing is going right. You just received bad news or like David, you are being exiled from your city, your throne?
And then an angel or messenger of God, a man named Ziba, servant of Mephibosheth, is leading two donkeys laden with “200 loaves of bread” (can’t you smell it!), “100 clusters of raisins” (to be a raisin, a grape requires curing), “100 fig cakes and a bottle of wine” (probably a keg?). This is not just a sack of groceries for one person, but an abundant provision from God.
This had to feel to David like a cup of cool water. Ziba was entrusted as the overseer of the land which was king Saul’s estate and given to Mephibosheth. Here were provisions for the people accompanying King David out of Jerusalem.
When we are at our lowest, watch for the provision of God. He will confirm His love and care. He will confirm His presence with us. He gives David tangible evidence of His sovereignty.
Action: I choose to trust God for His providential love and care in tough times.
Yield: I choose to yield to God His providential nature in the circumstances of life.
Engage: I choose to place my complete trust and confidence in God for my care.
Relationship: I choose to live in close intimacy with God.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for times of refreshing like David experienced after a long journey. I too get weary of life’s battles and stresses. I ask for evidence of Your provident care today. Amen.
Memory Verse: Proverbs 3: 5-8 “Trust in Adonai with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Adonai and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.” TLV
