Put your house in order.

Prayer: Father, there comes a time for all of us to put our house in order. May I take the time to reflect upon the time of Hezekiah. Amen.

Reading: Isaiah 38 key: vs. 1-2 “In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. So Isaiah the prophet son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says Adonai: Put your house in order. For you are dying, and will not live.” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Adonai. He said: “Please, Adonai, remember how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.” TLV

Attention: King Hezekiah was told by the prophet Isaiah that he was to put his house in order and take care of his affairs. He would die from his illness. The king was suffering from a staph infection, a serious, fatal illness in his day.

My father passed away this past year. It will be one year since his passing next week. He was 89 years old. I remember his testimony of God’s faithfulness to our family. Dad had a health event 4-5 years before his passing and I thought his earthly finality had come. I am not aware that like Hezekiah, he cried out to God to extend his life. But God graciously did extend his life.

The verse which popped off the page to me today is verse 19b, “A father makes Your faithfulness known to his children.”

I encourage fathers of faith in Adonai, to leave a legacy of faith to your children. Do they know of God’s faithfulness to you? Share your heart and faith with your family before that time comes when you are told, “Put your house in order.”

Action: I choose to have my house in order before the day God calls me home.

Yield: I choose to yield to the God of Isaiah, Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Spirit of God in putting my house in order.

Relationship: I choose to live a holy, obedient relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, please give me the opportunity to share Your faithfulness to me. Amen.

Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 2:11-13 “Trustworthy is the saying: If we died with Him, we will also live with Him; if we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He will also deny us; if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” TLV
