Prayer: Father, I ask that You help me see Scripture through the lens of Your eyes. Help me to see people as You see them. Help me see myself as You see me. Amen.
Reading: Judges 8 key: vs. 22-23 “Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us—you, your son, and your grandson as well. For you have delivered us from the hand of Midian.” But Gideon replied to them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. Adonai alone will rule over you.” TLV
Attention: It may be a generalization to say this, but as a common rule, as a people, we tend to have a fascination with hero worship, titles, and power. Whether in sports, politics, or celebrities, we tend to idolize those who have extraordinary skills, wealth, and fame.
In chapter 8, the men of Israel demanded of Gideon, “Rule over us.” He wisely turned them down, but we will see in the future study of Samuel, by the time the era of the judges is ending, the people ask for a king like the other nations. They have rejected God (Adonai) and beg for an earthly king, rather than a Sovereign King.
The question I would pose to you is this, does God still want to be the Supreme ruler over your life? Do we answer to God or to man? Does this form of Theocratic rulership work? Is it applicable to our lives and culture?
I believe that Adonai today, desires to be the Lord or our lives. His words and directives, His commands, and declarations, give Him supremacy, Lord above all.
Action: I choose today to acknowledge and embrace the Supreme King of Kings, as Lord over my life.
Yield: I choose today to give way to my desires and live for the King of Kings and Lord of lords.
Engage: I choose today to engage in willful submission to the Supremacy of Adonai.
Relationship: I choose today to live for Yeshua, who died for me.
Prayer: Father, if you are not Lord of all, You are not lord overall. I ask You to be the Lord of my life. Amen.
Memory Verse: Colossians 1:18 “He is the head of the body, His community. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead— so that He might come to have first place in all things.” TLV
