Prayer: Father, separation from You seems a frightful thing to me. I do not desire to ever be separated from You. Amen.
Reading: Isaiah 59 key: vs. 1-4 “Behold, Adonai’s hand is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. Rather, your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God. Your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood and your fingers with iniquity. Your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness. No one sues justly, and none pleads a case honestly. They trust in confusion and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.” TLV
Attention: In the early 1500’s Michelangelo was commissioned to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. One of his paintings is titled The Creation of Adam. “It is a fresco painting by Michelangelo, which forms part of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, painted between 1508 and 1512. The painting depicts God reaching out to touch the finger of Adam, who is lying on the ground, to give him the gift of life . The painting is one of the most iconic motifs of all time and is known for its complex scene with many layers of symbolism (What is the Meaning Behind Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam? While both Adam and God are reaching toward each other, neither finger connect. There is a separation which Yeshua bridged when going to the cross. His resurrection bridged the gap of separation caused by our sin.
Isaiah documents the cause of our separation with God, our iniquities (sin). The iniquities named; defiled hands, lies, wickedness, injustice in court, confusion, and mischief bring about separation with God.
May we come to know and understand the vast numbers of ways we can sin. May we understand that that sins of commission and omission both keep us separated from God.
Action: I choose to understand the vastness of my sin and separation with God.
Yield: I choose to submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit.
Engage: I choose to engage with the help of the Holy Spirit in a lifestyle of obedience.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate obedience unto Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I desire intimacy with You and not separation. I desire to be close to You. I am thankful that You will never leave me. Amen.
Memory Verse: Romans 3:21-24 “But now God’s righteousness apart from the Torah has been revealed, to which the Torah and the Prophets bear witness— namely, the righteousness of God through putting trust in Messiah Yeshua, to all who keep on trusting. For there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. They are set right as a gift of His grace, through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua.” TLV
