Serendipity

Prayer: Father, You have answered my requests for many things over the years. Thank You for being such and active, personal heavenly Father. Amen.

Reading: Genesis 24 key: vs. 12
12 Adonai, the God of Abraham my master,” he said, “please make something happen before me today, and show loyalty to Abraham my master.

Attention: I love the word “serendipity.” For me, a serendipity is a God planned appointment where God shows up and shows off!

There are several serendipities I could share. Like, in the founding of a non-profit for widows in 2014, one of my founding Board Members was a friend whom I had found through our mutual love of slow-pitch softball. John was quiet, unassuming, but he had a friend who was the manager of the Historic Everett Theater. I was looking for a venue to rent to host a Christmas Concert for the community of Everett. The concert would be a platform for announcing the formation of a non-profit for widows called The Widows Project. I had been a singing member of a faith-based choir called Breath of Aire in the early 2000’s. Together, the Theater and the choir formed the perfect event to share our heartbeat for widows.

Today’s scripture tells of a prayer by a servant of Abraham’s who was sent out to find a wife for Isaac. What did he do but call on the God of Abraham to “make something happen before me today.” He even prophetically gave Adonai the details, “Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please tip your jar so that I may drink, and she will say, ‘Drink—and I’ll also water your camels’—let her be the one You have appointed for your servant Isaac. So by this I’ll know that You have shown graciousness to my master.”

I attended a music conference in Southern California in the early 80’s, which I usually attended with a high school/college buddy. He couldn’t attend with me that year. So, while I was descending the escalator into the conference area, I remember lifting a prayer that I would appreciate God providing a new friend to enjoy the conference with. As I finished my prayer, my eyes met with a man below. We both locked onto each other’s eyes, and I walked straight to him with my hand extended.  We shook hands and introduced ourselves. I’ll never forget his name because his last name was “White” and mine is “Wright.” I looked at his name badge which gave the name of the church he was on staff. I knew that I had just heard that church’s name. It was the home church for a professor who had just taught an interterm class at Biola University, which I attended. I won’t tell you his name, but you may know of him if you have read the Five Love Languages book. Now is that serendipity or what?

I pray for serendipity often, to meet the people which God has planned to cross my path or me cross theirs. My life is richer by employing God’s supernatural method of directing my steps. One last pearl before we part today. If you are single and seeking a marriage partner like Abraham and his servant were for Isaac, consider purchasing a copy of God is the Matchmaker, by Derek Prince. I encourage you to employ God in your search for a spouse. It works!

Action: I will seek God every day to order my steps and bring me serendipities.

Yield: I give the ordering of my steps to God.

Engage: I will engage with God in establishing a lifestyle of obedience to Him.

Relationship: I employ the Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth to order my steps every day!

Prayer: Father, life is just better when You are ordering it! Order my steps today and bring Your planned appointments into my life. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 37:23
23 From Adonai a man’s steps are made firm,
when He delights in his way.
