Prayer: Father, what a gloriously sunny day You have blessed me with today! I even have had a friend text me this morning about how glorious this day is. You bring sunshine after rain. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 91 key: vs. 1-3
1 He who dwells in the shelter of Elyon,
will abide in the shadow of Shaddai.
2 I will say of Adonai,
“He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.
3 For He will rescue you from the hunter’s trap
and from the deadly pestilence.
Attention: Have you ever called 911? Have you ever had an emergency? This chapter in the Psalms has been called the Spiritual 911 chapter. If there is a chapter I would encourage you to mark, underline or highlight for future reference it is Psalms 91.
If you have been joining me on this journey to know God deeper and establish a daily reading and journaling lifestyle, have you taken notice of the tagline I place at the end of each journal? It is there to emphasize the importance of abiding in Jesus every day. The apostle John helps us with the concept of abiding in chapters 14-15 of the book named after him. Notice how the psalmist begins, “He who dwells in the shelter of Elyon (God Most High), will abide in the shadow of Shaddai (All Sufficient One).” He begins by inviting you and me to sit in Adonai’s lap, dwell in His presence and sit in His shadow.
Why does He say this? Because He sees God as his refuge, fortress, his all-sufficient protection in whom he has supreme confidence and trust. Notice the next line, “He will rescue you from the hunter’s trap and from the deadly pestilence.” Do you know who the hunter is? If there is a hunter (and there is), who is the hunted? Have we experienced anything close to a “deadly pestilence,” in the past couple of years?
When You call God’s direct line in an emergency, He responds by covering you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” Are you allowing Him to cover you?
There is much more to say, but skipping down to verse 9, when we make Elyon your dwelling, even Adonai, …my refuge, … no evil will befall you nor any plague come near your tent. He will give His angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways.”
I know we have observed loved ones pass in the past two years and all of it does not make sense to us but let’s praise Adonai today for bringing us through the crisis emergency safely.
Action: I will claim Psalm 91 as my go to scripture in times of trouble.
Yield: When I yield to Adonai, I place my worries and concerns upon Him.
Engage: When I place my concern on Yeshua, I engage in life with Him.
Relationship: When I abide in Yeshua, I am in relationship with Him.
Prayer: Father, You are the One I run too when life strikes. You are my shelter, my refuge. In You I abide. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 91:14-16
14 “Because he has devoted his love to Me,
I will deliver him.
I will set him securely on high,
because he knows My Name.
15 When he calls on Me, I will answer him.
I will be with him in trouble, rescue him, and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him My salvation.”
