Supernatural Provision

Prayer: Father, in each life story You came through. Thank You for showing me that You are the God who shows up. Amen.

Reading: 2 Kings 4 key: vs. 1-2 “Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha saying, “Your servant my husband is dead—you know that your servant feared Adonai. Now the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.” “What should I do for you?” Elisha asked her. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She replied, “Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” TLV

Attention: There are three accounts in this chapter, of Adonai showing up for people in crisis.

First a widow whose children were about to be collateral for debt. Her only source of income was her husband, and he was dead. Now the creditors were about to take her children as slaves.

Next, we hear of a childless couple whom Elisha declares will be with child in a year. They have a boy which we next hear is old enough to accompany his father to the fields to work. While at work, he suffers a painful head condition, which causes him to cry out. He is taken home and dies in his mother’s lap.

Finally, a cook is ordered to prepare a stew for the “sons of the prophets.” The preparer heads for the fields and collects herbs and finds a “wild vine” full of gourds. Apparently, the gourds are poisonous because once prepared and served, those who ate “cried out and said, O man of God, there is death in the pot.”

There seems to be a common thread in each story. Adonai shows up through Elisha and meets the need through provision, healing, and making the stew edible. All three miracles were manifestations of Adonai’s power. He first brought from little and made it much. The oil kept flowing and provided the income to pay financial debts. He resurrected a dead son, and He made what was poisonous edible.

Nothing which Elisha faced was beyond Adonai’s reach or ability to overcome. If this was true of Adonai in Elisha’s time, is it still true of Adonai today? I hope you just said a collective, adamant YES!

Action: I choose to come to Adonai as the source of my provider, healer, and sustainer.

Yield: I choose to submit to the healing, providing, overcoming authority of Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the overcoming power of the Holy Spirit in all of life circumstances.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for the examples of Your overcoming power through a man, Elisha, who flowed the Spirit of God. I praise You for the miracle of multiplication, the miracle of resurrection healing, and protection from poisoning. Amen.

Memory Verse: Mark 16: 17-18 “These signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak new languages; they will handle snakes; and if they drink anything deadly, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.” TLV
