Prayer: Father, help me to convey what it means to taste and see that You are good. May my definition inspire others to indulge in a lifestyle of desiring You. Amen.
Reading: Psalms 34 key: vs. 9
9 Taste and see how good Adonai is.
Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.
Attention: There used to be a chef called The Galloping Gourmet, who had a television show on which he hosted an audience to watch him prepare savory dishes and then at the conclusion of the show, he would invite a couple people to a table and allow them as guests to eat what he had prepared. I can only imagine that he had all the audience guests salivating as they had smelled the herbs, spices, and the cooking wine he had used to prepare the dish. Just viewing by television, I wanted to taste the days entrée.
If only my representation of every day’s journal entry would cause you to “taste and see” that the Lord is good. I will say this, every year that I have participated in the process of meeting with God every day in the morning, has gotten deeper and richer. I continue to make new discoveries about God. Studying His Word is not redundant or tedious, because it is alive and powerful. As the Word transforms my life, my life is conformed to Him. I begin having His mind, His heart and understand how much I don’t know about His ways. The more mature I become; I understand how naïve I was when I was younger. My thought processes are changed. My heart is changed. The eyes with which I see are changed.
Jesus is called the Bread of Life. Did your mother ever bake homemade bread? The aroma fills the house. Fresh homemade bread is so much better tasting than store bought.
The psalmist is comparing physical food to spiritual food. Have you read John 4:31-34? The disciples were imploring Jesus to eat physical nourishing food and Jesus replies, “I have a food to eat that you know nothing about.” This reply caused the disciples to inquire amongst themselves, “No one brought Him food to eat, did they?” To which He replied, “My food is to do the will of the One who sent Me and to accomplish His work.”
Do I come to His Word hungry? Is my food the same as Jesus’? Have I tasted and seen that He is good? Is my desire for His Word increased as I grow in the Word? Does my soul pant for God like the deer for water?
Action: I desire more of the Holy Spirit and experience more of His manifestations in my life. Increase my desire, my thirst, and my longing for You, O Lord.
Yield: Surrender increases my dependency and desire.
Engage: Engagement increases desire, and thirst, and longing.
Relationship: Surrender and engagement increases intimacy.
Prayer: Father, help me desire more of You. Like the psalmist, may I taste and see that You are good. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalms 34: 2-5
2 I will bless Adonai at all times.
His praise is continually in my mouth.
3 My soul boasts in Adonai.
The humble ones hear of it and rejoice.
4 Magnify Adonai with me
and let us exalt His Name together.
5 I sought Adonai, and He answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
