Prayer: Father, what an interesting request by David, tell me the “days of my life.” You have revealed to a few the answer to this question. May I listen to Your reply. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reading: Psalms 39 key: vs. 5-6
5 “Let me know, Adonai, my end
and what the number of my days is.
Let me know how short-lived I am.
6 Behold, You made my days mere hand-breadths,
and my lifetime as nothing before You.
Surely all humanity is but vapor. Selah
Attention: For starters, I am not going to tell you who the men in the Bible who were given information about the immanency of their death. I want to inspire you and create enough curiosity for you to do a little research. Learning is best facilitated when there is some personal digging to be done.
In Scripture we have a king who was told he was about to die via a prophet. The King cried out to Adonai, and he was given an additional 15 years of life. In both the book named after the prophet and the book of 2 Kings the conversation is documented. We see in the NT (New Testament) a documented promise given to a priest that was told he would not die until he had seen the consolation of Israel (The Christ or Messiah).
David as a man of war, had seen death. He knew that life on earth has a beginning and an end. How eminent were his days?
There has not been a time like today, where the entire world has been made aware of death. Your position and belief system about death and eternity has a major influence on your fear or peace and happiness. The world population is not only polarized about the pandemic, solutions, and mandates, it is polarized over the one to fear. I hope you have resolve on who to fear and not to fear.
Both Matthew (10:28) and Luke (12:5) record Jesus’ instruction to the twelve, “do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead fear the One who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.” Paul tells the Philippians (1:21), “For to me, to live is Messiah and to die is gain.” What did Paul know that we don’t know? This is the journey of discovery we are on together. I hope you will join the process! I hope you have resolved the tension and conflict of death.
