Temple Construction Begins

Prayer: Father, what a project! Help me to fathom the extensiveness of the building of the Temple. Your glory succeeds the glory of the Temple which by earthly standards, was glorious. Amen.

Reading: 1 Kings 6 key: vs. 1 & 37-38 “Now it came to pass, 480 years after the children of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv (which is the second month), that he began to build Adonai’s House.” … “In the fourth year, in the month of Ziv, the foundation of the House of Adonai was laid, and in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul (which is the eighth month), the House was completed in all its parts and according to all its details. So he was seven years building it.” TLV

Attention: Have you ever walked past a construction site and heard all the jack hammers, compressors, and cranes employed by the workers? It is a noisy work site because it takes all types of air driven tools and heavy construction trucks to complete the project.

Notice that it is recorded that no “hammer, axe nor any iron tool heard in the House during its construction.” How could this be accomplished? We are told that all the “finish” work on the stone was completed “at the quarry.” It was a monumental task to ferry the finished stone to the Temple site and place it into place. It took four years just to lay the foundation, with thousands cutting the stone, transporting it and workers to place each stone into place. Then they began the task of building the structure.

The record of 1 Kings says, construction began 480 years after the “children of Israel” came out of the land Egypt, in the “fourth year of Solomon’s reign.” This establishes a specific timeline for the building of the Temple, from start to finish.

Once again, Adonai gives Solomon instruction about the covenant He struck with his father, David. “Then the word of Adonai came to Solomon saying: “As for this House which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes, execute My ordinances and keep all My mitzvot by walking in them, then I will establish My word with you, which I spoke to your father David, I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel (6:11-13).”

God is reminding Solomon that His covenant with David is conditional upon Solomon and his family beyond. “I will dwell among” you and the children of Israel, “and will not forsake My people Israel.” God would extend His covenant to future generations “if” you (Solomon) “keep my statutes, execute My ordinances and keep all My mitzvot by walking in them.”

Obedience is always a foundational point with God’s covenants. Just as God required the obedience of Solomon, we will see that the condition of obedience extended to his children and their children. Obedience is a requirement for the lifestyle of all followers of Adonai

Action: I choose to be obedient to the covenant of God extended to Solomon and his future generations.

Yield: I choose to yield to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my life.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in a lifestyle of obedience to the Word.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, I love Your Word which is a light unto my path. Guide my life through Your Holy Spirit. I choose to live a lifestyle of obedience unto You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Romans 1: 3-5 “Concerning His Son, He came into being from the seed of David according to the flesh. He was appointed Ben-Elohim in power according to the Ruach of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. He is Messiah Yeshua our Lord. Through Him we have received grace and the office of emissary, to bring about obedience of faith among all the nations on behalf of His name.” TLV
