The Conquered Kings

Prayer: Father, may I surrender the unconquered areas of my life to You. May I choose to hold on to You and release those areas which I refuse to surrender to Your control. Amen.

Reading: Joshua 12 key: vs. 1
“Now these are the kings of the land whom Bnei-Yisrael defeated and possessed their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, from the valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastward:” TLV

Attention: There has never been a military leader like Joshua. At the conclusion of their God-assigned campaign, Joshua and his mighty men were a combined 31-1 and only sustained “about 36 casualties (Joshua 7:5).” Look through historical battles and the ground forces sustain great losses. A record like Joshua’s can only come through divine assistance and guidance. They were told what to do and instructed, “All the spoil of these cities and the cattle, Bnei-Yisrael took as their plunder, but they struck down every person with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, not sparing anyone who breathed” (Joshua 11:14).

Joshua consulted Adonai prior to every battle and campaign. Only once did he stray from the strategy of consulting Adonai first, and they paid for an overconfident effort on their own. The lesson we need to embrace, if it worked for Joshua, it would work for us too. Adonai was Joshua’s Commander in Chief. He is our Commander in Chief. He gave Joshua his marching orders. He has given us marching orders too.

Are we consulting Adonai in every area of life? I discovered a life verse years ago which is found in Colossians 1:18b, “so that He (Messiah) might come to have first place in all things.” This declaration is found amid a list of character descriptors about who Messiah is.

May we all seek to give Messiah “first place in all things.”

Action: I choose to give Messiah first place in all areas of my life.

Yield: I choose to give Messiah all areas of my life and heart.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in being my mentor.

Relationship: I choose to maintain an intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, there is no one like You. There is no other God beside You. You hold a preeminent, exclusive place in my heart. There is only You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Colossians 1:18
“He is the head of the body, His community. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead— so that He might come to have first place in all things.”
