The Pious

Prayer: Father, Your words are tough to hear. Your words provide a mirror of insight and reflection of who we truly are at the core of our being. May I take heed today of what You say. Amen.

Reading: Micah 7 key: vs. 2 & 6 “The pious have perished from the land, there is none upright among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood. A man hunts his brother with a net.” & “For son treats father with contempt; daughter rises up against mother; daughter-in-law against mother-in-law: a man’s enemies are the people of his own house.” TLV

Attention: I found it interesting that Adonai gave a word to Micah for those who felt they were more righteous than everyone else. The word is “pious” which means, religiously devout. Yet we are told that it was those who were religiously devout who engaged in all kinds of schemes against their brother.

Just as a graduated from high school, I was asked by my pastor, if I would work that summer as a pastor to the youth, along with a female youth as an assistant. Being so close in age to the youth we were working with and that I had a brother 1.5 years younger in the group, compounded our challenges. I remember as youth leadership, of being charged with being pious. Back then I can believe the charge, as I come to discover over the summer, that many of the youth were experimenting with drugs and alcohol. These activities were not a part of my life. This was the era of the sixties, and rebellion and defiance were the cry of youth nationwide, even in the church.

I have witnessed many families where the contempt young people have for their parents is palpable. I have experienced and seen the contempt of daughters-in-law against their in-law parents.

Micah not only prophesied the behavior of his generation, but of generations future. Yeshua quotes Micah in Matthew 10:35-36, verbatim, “For I have come to set ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.”

The end times are characterized by turmoil and chaos in the home. The chaos of the nations is reduced to the character of home life. The character of the nation is reflective of the chaos within the home. Adonai prophesied through Micah; Yeshua prophesied to the nation of Israel quoting Michah in the hearing of Matthew. Are we listening?

There is a spiritual battle being waged for our sons and daughters. May we understand it as such and get in the battle. Praying for our children and praying against the enemy of our souls.

Action: I will engage in daily intercessory prayer for my children and the children of my town.

Yield: I choose to submit to the prophetic words of Adonai and Yeshua.

Engage: I choose to engage with my best friend (or spouse) over the lives of our children.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with Adonai and Yeshua.

Memory Verse: Malachi 3:23-24 ““Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and terrible day of Adonai. He will turn the hearts of fathers to the children, and the hearts of children to their fathers—else I will come and strike the land with utter destruction.” TLV
