Prayer: Father, I pray that I might be privileged to discover the secret things which belong to You. Your servant and slave is ready to receive instruction today. Amen.
Reading: Deuteronomy 29 key: vs. 28
28 “The secret things belong to Adonai our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever—in order to do all the words of this Torah. TLV
Attention: Have you ever had a secret and told someone? How long did it remain a secret? The secret remained a secret only as long as you were the only one who knew it. As soon as you told someone else, it was no longer a secret.
Do I believe that Adonai has secrets? Adonai confirms that He has secrets in today’s key verse, but He continues by saying, “the things revealed belong to us (the Hebrew nation) and to our children forever.” Why? Because He had Moses write them down and the Levites pass them down orally. He has already told Joshua and the Levites, the first thing they are to do upon crossing the Jordan is to set up “stones about which I am commanding you today on Mount Ebal, and coat them with plaster. There also you will build an altar to Adonai your God, an altar of stones—you are not to use an iron tool on them.
You are to build the altar of Adonai your God of whole stones, and you are to offer up burnt offerings on it to Adonai your God.
You are to sacrifice fellowship offerings and eat there, and you will rejoice before Adonai your God.
You are to write on the stones all the words of this Torah very clearly (Deut. 27:4b-8).”
I hear people saying that they want fresh or new revelation. Why should God give you or me fresh revelation, when we do not know the revelation which He has already given in scripture?
I once heard a story about a pastor who was transferring to a new pastorate in another state. In haste he put the last box which happened to be his preaching notes for his years of preaching, in the trailer and pulled the tarp over the box. Believing that everything was secure, he headed off down the road and onto the interstate. At some point, the tarp blew open and the box of sermon notes were sent flying, sowing his notes along the freeway. He didn’t discover the calamity till he arrived at his destination. He was relieved that he had put the sermon he was to preach next, in his briefcase. Sunday, he preached the prepared sermon, and the congregation expressed their appreciation to the new pastor.
Sunday evening, he preached the same sermon. The deacons were concerned but figured that in the move, he didn’t have time to prepare and gave him grace. Wednesday night came and he preached the same sermon, so the head of the deacons called an impromptu meeting and inquired of the pastor, why he had preached the same sermon three times. His response, I figured until you did something about and applied this sermon, I didn’t need to proceed with another.
God has revealed much about Himself, His Law, His Covenant, and His plan to reconcile man to Himself. Are we listening? Are we searching the scriptures daily, to know everything we can about who He is. Are we obeying His Law? Have we been redeemed and born again? Are we being obedient as a servant and slave?
Yes, Adonai has secrets, but He has revealed all we need to know to follow and obey Him.
Action: I choose to search the scriptures as a lifestyle for the rest of my earthly life.
Yield: I choose to give myself to the lifestyle of seeking to know Adonai!
Engage: I choose to engage with the aid of the Holy Spirit in the seeking to know Adonai.
Relationship: I choose to draw near to Adonai so that He will draw near to me.
Prayer: Father, thank You for being a loving, intimate, divine Father. Thank You for loving me. Amen.
Memory Verse: Philippians 3:10-11
10 My aim is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death— 11 if somehow I might arrive at the resurrection from among the dead.
