The Veil

Prayer: Father, may I see the details of Solomon’s craftmanship in building the Temple. Give me an understanding of the significance of each detail. Amen.

Reading: 2 Chronicles 3 key: vs. 14 “Furthermore, he made the veil of blue, purple, crimson yarn and fine linen with cheruvim worked into it.” TLV

Attention: It would be easy to walk past the veil in reading about it, but it would not be easy to walk past it and gain access to the Holy of Holies. The veil served a purpose. No one was to see the Holiest of Holies, except for the high priest and he went in only once a year. So, what was the veil like? Today we might call it a curtain. Have you ever been to a theater where they have long hanging curtains which draw or part, from center to side?

This veil was different. The writer of 2 Chronicles tells us the assorted colors used in the making of the veil and a detail about the design, “yarn and fine linen with cheruvim worked into it.”

Are you aware that this veil is the same veil referenced by three of the gospel writers at Yeshua’s death on the cross? Here is what Matthew says, “And behold, the curtain of the Temple was split in two, from top to bottom. And the earth quaked and rocks were split apart (27:51).” Mark records a similar response, “Then the curtain of the Temple was split in two, from top to bottom (15:38).” Luke confirms, “And the curtain of the Temple was torn in two (23:45).”

God’s response to Yeshua’s death was darkness, an earthquake, resurrections from the dead, and tearing the veil from “top to bottom.” Man would tear from bottom to top, God tore it from top to bottom.

What was the significance of God’s action? “At Jesus’ death the temple veil was ripped from top to bottom, illustrating that in Christ God had abolished the barrier separating humanity from the presence of God.” *Source: Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary

In Yeshua’s death we have now gained access through Him to God. Direct access is now available to all who follow Jesus. Yeshua accomplished at His death and resurrection, what no human man could do. He conquered death.  He destroyed the barrier between God and man.

Action: I choose to embrace the victory of Yeshua’s death, burial, and resurrection.

Yield: I choose to submit to the sovereignty of God.

Engage: I choose to engage with Yeshua’s victory in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I choose to live in an intimate, obedient relationship with Yeshua.

Prayer: Father, there is so much evidence of Your interaction with the power of Yeshua’s death, telling the world, this is My Son. Thank You Yeshua for tearing down the veil which had separated us from God. Amen.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:19-20 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have boldness to enter into the Holies by the blood of Yeshua. He inaugurated a new and living way for us through the curtain—that is, His flesh.” TLV
