The Weeping Prophet

Prayer: Father, Jeremiah is called a weeping prophet because he lamented the coming judgement of his native people. May I come to be known as a servant who also lamented the coming judgement of my friends, family, and nation. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 13 key: vs.15-17 “Hear and give ear! Do not be haughty! For Adonai has spoken. Give glory to Adonai your God, before it grows dark, and before your feet stumble on mountains at dusk. When you look for light, He turns it into the shadow of death, and turns it into deep darkness. But if you will not listen, my soul will sob in secret before such pride, and my eyes will weep bitterly and overflow with tears, for Adonai’s flock will be taken captive.” TLV

Attention: If you are a parent, you may in some small way identify with Jeremiah. We see multiple occasions in Jeremiah’s writings, where he communicated the message of Adoniah about impending judgement, and they would “not listen.” The warnings went unheeded.

Thus, Jeremiah records himself as a weeping prophet. How many times have you cried for your children who like Israel, are seeking their own way. We discovered in chapter 11, the mention of Anathoth was personal to Jeremiah as his birthplace. They too would not listen to his forewarning message, and even threatened his life.

I would encourage you to keep interceding for your family and children. I too pray from my children and family regularly. I have practiced intercessory prayer for my family for years. Like Jeremiah, I have shed many tears over my children.

May we gain a heart for the people and land of our nation. Like Jeremiah, may we be obedient in heralding a warning of coming judgement upon us and our nation.

Action: I choose to develop a heart which cries for my family, friends, and nation.

Yield: I choose to submit to the Spirit of God in praying for my family, friends, and nation.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in proclaiming a message of repentance.

Relationship: I choose to live in obedient, intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, the similarities of the nation of Israel and the United States are striking. May I embrace a message of forewarning my friends, family, and nation of impending judgement. In the name above all names, Messiah Yeshua, amen.

Memory Verse: Lamentations 2:19 “Arise! Cry out in the night at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the life of your children who faint from hunger at the head of every street.” TLV
