They Relied Upon Adonai

Prayer: Father, teach me today from the stories and accounts of old. Amen.

Reading: 2 Chronicles 13 key: vs. 15-18 “Then the men of Judah raised a battle cry, and as the men of Judah shouted, God struck down Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. Then men of Israel fled before Judah and God delivered them into their hand. So Abijah and his people defeated them with a great slaughter, and 500,000 chosen men of Israel fell slain. Thus men of Israel were subdued at that time, while the children of Judah prevailed—because they relied upon Adonai, the God of their fathers.” TLV

Attention: Abijah pleaded with his northern countrymen and family, not to come against the south because they embraced Adonai, the God of the Israelites. He warned them that they were fighting against God, the One they had forsaken.

It is no different today regarding Israel and the nations who come against them. This is why since they became once again a recognized nation, they have prevailed against everyone, even at great odds. Did you pay attention to the numbers of fighting men? Though outnumbered in battle, Abijah and his forces, relied upon God, and prevailed, “500,000” chosen me of Israel (the northern forces) fell slain.” The results of that battle brought peace for ten years.

Did you notice King Abijah’s mention of the Covenant of Salt? Salt was an ingredient used in sacrifice and exchanged in the making of covenants as a symbol of the enduring or “forever” nature of a covenant. It is the “forever” element of a covenant which makes it endure even today.

God honors His covenants. This is why Abijah referenced the covenant with David. Abijah was of the household of David and that Adonai would honor His covenant to David’s household. This is why Matthew provides us with the lineage of Messiah, traced through King David (Matthew 1).

Choose today with whom you will align. The choice is Messiah or all the other gods. Abijah chose right, Jeroboam chose wrong. I hope you will choose to follow Messiah all the days of your life.

Action: I choose to embrace and follow Adonai, God of the Hebrew nation.

Yield: I choose to submit to the sovereignty of God.

Engage: I choose to engage with the sovereign God of the universe.

Relationship: I choose to live in obedient, humble relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, You are God and God alone. There is none other, nor shall there ever be. I embrace You and I choose to follow Yeshua Messiah. Amen.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 45: 5-6 “I am Adonai—there is no other. Besides Me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not known Me, so they may know, from the rising to the setting of the sun, that there is no one besides Me. I am Adonai—there is no other.” TLV
