Prayer: Father, You have given me many signs. Open my eyes to see Your signs which are evidence and proof of who You are and Your love for me. Teach me now through the life of Jonathan. Amen.
Reading: 1 Samuel 14 key: vs. 8-10 “Then Jonathan said, “Here, we’ll cross over to the men, then let them see us. If they say to us: ‘Wait till we come to you,’ then we’ll stand still in our place and will not go up to them. But if they say, ‘Come up to us!’ then we will go up, for Adonai has delivered them into our hand—that will be our sign.” TLV
Attention: I love seeing a rainbow in the sky after a rain shower. A rainbow is the perfect visual sign which God gave us as a reminder of His former actions found in Genesis 9:12-17. Most followers of Yeshua see the rainbow as an affirmation or sign that God will never destroy the earth by means of a flood again. However, if you read the text, God specifically says, “Whenever I bring clouds over the land and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember My covenant that is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the rainbow is in the cloud, I will look at it, to remember the perpetual covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the land.” The rainbow reminds God of His “perpetual covenant” with man. The rainbow tells us God’s covenant and it reminds God of His covenant.
There have been rare times in which I have been blessed to see a double rainbow. It is a glorious visual representation of God’s grace and mercy towards mankind and every living thing.
There are several people in scripture which we could refer to who asked God for a sign. People like Gideon (Judges 6:36-40), and even the pharisees & sadducees (Matthew 16: 1-4, Mark 8:10) all ask for a sign.
Has God not given us all signs in scripture and creation? Through Matthew’s writings, Yeshua gave us several signs in chapter 24. Signs of alarm, persecution, false prophets, lawlessness, and the love of many will grow cold. Endurance is a sign of those who remain faithful to the end.
Even the rising and setting of the sun and the rain falling on all mankind is a sign of a benevolent Creator. Open your eyes to the signs we are given in scripture and in creation.
Action: I choose to embrace those signs which are already available to me in scripture and creation.
Yield: I choose to yield to the sending and giving of the Holy Spirit as a sign.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in being transformed into the image of a Holy God.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, You have given us so many signs which we ignore. Open our eyes to Your benevolence, grace and mercy. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 24: 30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the land will mourn, and they will see ‘the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven’ with power and great glory.” TLV
