To Tell The Truth

Prayer: My Father, whom is in heaven, holy is Your name. You value honesty and truth. May I embrace honesty as a lifestyle of my mouth and heart today. Amen.

Reading: Genesis 42 key: 31-32
31 But we said to him, ‘We’re honest. We’ve never been spies. 32 We are twelve brothers, sons of our father. One is no more and the youngest is with our father today in the land of Canaan.’

Attention: During my adolescence, there was a television program called, “To Tell The Truth.” The show had a panel of celebrities who through questions posed to the guests, tried to determine who was telling the truth. One of the guests was the real contestant, the other two were posing as the contestant. The goal was to see if the contestants could fool the celebrity panel.

Joseph used the value of honesty to interrogate his brothers and find out if his full brother, Benjamin, was still alive. If his brothers returned with Benjamin, he would spare their lives. By virtue of the test he devised, he could determine their honesty.

Honesty is a virtue which Adonai loves. One of the characteristics of God is veracity, honesty which is superseded by not only being honest, but unable to tell a lie. Veracity is also characterized by accuracy and conformity of truth and fact. There are several scriptures which underscore the veracity of God (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:1-2; Hebrews 6:18). Please take a moment to read these few verses which establish God’s total veracity, in which He cannot deny Himself. God values honesty in mankind. Of the things which God hates, a lying tongue is one of them (Proverbs 6:17).

Joseph feared God (Genesis 42:18). He was committed to the truth. Honesty would be the determining factor in granting his brothers life.  How committed to honesty, truthfulness, and veracity are you?

Action: I will commit today to lifestyle of veracity with God, family, and friends.

Yield: When I am submitted to God, I live a lifestyle of devotion to Him.

Engage: I am engaged with God when I represent Him in honesty and truthfulness.

Relationship: I am in relationship when I model my life after Yeshua.

Prayer: Father, I desire to emulate Your character in being truthful and honest. When I am honest with You, I can be honest with others. May my honesty begin in my relationship with You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 24:26
26 An honest answer
is like a kiss on the lips.
