Unless

Prayer: Father, your servant is listening. Teach me from Your Word today. I ask for new insight. Amen.

Reading: Amos 3 key: vs. 7-8 “For the Lord Adonai, will do nothing, unless He has revealed His counsel to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared, who will not fear? My Lord Adonai has spoken, who shall not prophesy?” TLV

Attention: After studying the major prophets’ books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel earlier this year, I have a greater appreciation and understanding of the office of prophet. I have also embraced the legitimacy of the office of prophet for today. I was raised in a denomination which believed in dispensationalism or what is called cessationism today. My study has led me to believe that the office of a prophet and apostle are valid and legitimate today. I find no evidence in scripture of God (Adonai) telling us any differently.

The truth of today’s scripture focus underscores the purpose and role of prophet. God says, “I will do nothing, unless (I) He has revealed (My) His counsel to (My) His servants the prophets.” I had not taken notice of this declaration by God, until today. I have found in my journey of faith with God, that we can see what we want to see (or do not want to see), depending on the filter or lens with which we are looking at scripture. Worshipping and studying with cessationists led me to embrace a belief system which lacked perspective. As I studied and read the entire scriptures, the Holy Spirit led me into a new belief system, embracing the manifestations of the Ruach, the offices of prophet and apostle, prophecy, and the gifts of the Spirit.

Adonai is telling us that He provides ample warning of His intentions through “His servants the prophets.” We may choose not to listen to a prophet based upon Holy Spirit led discernment. However, if we embrace a doctrine of delegitimizing the office of a prophet, we will not listen based on the false assumption, prophets are not for today.

If you are a cessasionist because you were raised to believe that way (as I was), I encourage you to take a brave look at scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to be your mentor. He will lead you into all truth as promised in John 14:26.

Action: I choose to embrace the veracity of scripture and the Holy Spirit.

Yield: I choose to submit to the authority of Adonai, His Word, and the Holy Spirit.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in developing a correct understanding of scripture.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate, holy relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, what You have declared, I believe and embrace. Amen.

Memory Verse: Amos 3:7-8 “For the Lord Adonai, will do nothing, unless He has revealed His counsel to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared, who will not fear? My Lord Adonai has spoken, who shall not prophesy? TLV
