Reading: Proverbs 6 key: vs. 32-33
32 He who commits adultery with a woman lacks sense.
Whoever does so destroys himself.
33 He will find disease and disgrace.
His shame will never be wiped away.
Attention: There was a day when people would blush and their conscious would bother them, at the thought of committing adultery. There was a day that your feet had to take you to a place where adultery could take place. Now the internet makes every type of sexual sin available, and it is framed as normal and usual. We even have named definitions of the category of sexual preferences one has to give identity to potential suitors.
All the abhorrent, deviant sexual options are promoted via reality type shows educating those of us who are unaware how wonderful the lifestyle is. The only lifestyle we do not promote, is monogamy and fidelity.
While the Avant Garde promote everything but a godly lifestyle, I want to approach the issue of adultery from another viewpoint. Solomon is warning against physical adultery. A proper understanding of spiritual adultery will keep us from physical adultery. You may ask, what is spiritual adultery? Spiritual adultery is the adultery which Solomon committed, when his heart was turned away from God. He allowed foreign wives who worshipped foreign gods to turn his heart away from Adonai. When He gave Moses the Ten Commandments, the very first commandment was, “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20: 3). If our heart position about God is not right, we will be susceptible to physical adultery too. He wants an exclusive place in our hearts and lives.
Let’s make sure we have not or are not committing spiritual adultery. Is there anything in your life which is displacing God from having a first and only place in your life? He commands it and He demands it. Give Him an exclusive first place in your heart today!
Action: I will give Adonai an exclusive first place in my heart, today!
