We become like Him

Prayer: Father, the greatest compliment I can give You is to become like You. Help me to become more like You every day. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 135 key vs. 18
18 Those who make them will be like them—
so will all who keep trusting in them.

Attention: I recall as a child, wanting to be with my dad, wherever he was or whatever he was doing. If he was washing the car, I wanted to help him wash the car. If he was mowing the lawn, I was there.

I also recall an advertisement in my youth which said, “I want to be like Mike!,” referring to Basketball star Michael Jordan. It was quite a slogan and many boys, wanted to emulate the moves and shooting of MJ. Of course, the first step was to buy a pair of the shoes which he endorsed. Millions of pairs or Jordan’s Nike shoes were sold.

Have you ever thought about the concept that we become like those we are around? This is one of the purposes of daily Bible study, to become like Christ. The apostle Paul uses the term “imitate” to convey the message of becoming like Christ. “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Messiah (1 Corinthians 11:1).” Can we agree that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? He repeats the same message to the Ephesian community, “Therefore be imitators of God, as dearly loved children; and walk in love, just as Messiah also loved us and gave Himself up for us (5:1-2a).”

The psalmist today observes that those who worship idols become like the idol they made, for the idols cannot see, or speak, or hear, nor do they breathe. Do you see the contrast between false gods and the living God? False gods and idols bring death, Adonai brings life!

Being conformed to the image of Christ is the work of the Holy Spirit as He transforms us, our hearts, minds and souls through the daily study and application of the scriptures, the Word of Adonai. I encourage you to develop the lifestyle of a disciple of Yeshua and give Him “first place in everything (Colossians 1:18b).”

Action: I will become like Christ the Messiah, by submitting to the daily process of coming to the Word of Adonai and allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work of transformation.

Yield: I surrender myself to the Choose Life Journal process of daily time with Adonai and His Word.

Engaged: I am engaged when I am submitted to the process.

Relationship: Less of me and more of Him.

Prayer: Father, I want people to see less of me and more of You. May I decrease and may You increase in my life. Amen.

Memory Verse: John 4:30
30 The people left the town and began coming to Him.
