Prayer: Father, help your servant glean from scripture the truths which stand the test of time. Amen.
Reading: 2 Chronicles 1 key: vs. 10-12 “Now give me wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people. For who can govern this great people of Yours?” Then God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart and you have not asked for riches, possessions or honor, nor for the life of those who hate you and have not even asked for long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself—so you can govern My people over whom I have made you king—wisdom and knowledge will be given to you. Moreover, I will give you riches, possessions and honor, such as none of the kings who were before you ever had and none after you will have.” TLV
Attention: If you were asked by God what He could give you, how would you answer Him? Would you ask for fortune or fame? Would you ask God to eliminate an enemy? Would you ask for long life or honor? Would you ask for a new house?
Solomon asked for none of these things and God honored his request for “wisdom and knowledge,” so he could govern God’s people. His request was not selfish nor self-motivated. He asked God for a supernatural ability to govern His people. An ability to govern the kingdom that was God given. It was infused with wisdom and knowledge to correctly discern and make decisions on behalf of the people he was entrusted with.
Adonai was impressed and gave Solomon more than he asked for. He gave Solomon all the other things which he could have asked for, because he answered well.
All of us have responsibilities for others, whether a wife, children, parents, siblings, employees, mayors, and governors. We would do well to ask God for the wisdom and knowledge to parent well, honor our parents, and serve the people we have a responsibility for.
Action: I choose to ask Adonai for the ability (wisdom and knowledge) to lead well for Him.
Yield: I choose to submit to the authority and sovereignty of God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit to lead others well.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate, obedient relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, like Solomon, we do well to answer Your question without selfish motive. We all have responsibilities for someone, others. May we lead with the added strength of Your wisdom and knowledge. Amen.
Memory verse: Jacob (James) 1:5 “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all without hesitation and without reproach; and it will be given to him.” TLV
