What Will You Do

Prayer: Father, may I love truth more than partial truth. May I seek You and Your Word wisdom more than the wisdom of man. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 5 key: vs. 30-31 “An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land. The prophets prophesy falsely, the kohanim rule by their own authority, and My people love it this way! But what will you do in the end?” TLV

Attention: I can remember it like it was yesterday. In my senior year of high school, I presided as president over a service organization called Key Club. Key Club is an extension of Kiwanis International. My high school’s principal was a Kiwanian and served as the Northwest District’s Lieutenant Governor. My association with Key Club provided me many opportunities to associate with my town’s business leaders and attend Kiwanis Conventions.

One convention held in Vancouver, B.C., held a pseudo church service as a part of the opening ceremony. In that service, the pastor presiding over the service made a comment about Jesus being a martyr. That, Jesus was martyred for His faith. I could not constrain myself. For scripture establishes that Jesus gave His life, and it was not taken from Him. He purposed to stay on the cross and die for the sin of all mankind (John 3:16-18).

What Jeremiah is calling “appalling and horrible” is the same things which are going on in our land, nation, and nations, today. Those who are entrusted to rightly divide the Word, are prophesying “falsely” and “ruling by their own authority.” Similarly, the people “love it this way!”

Do you know the scriptures so that you can spot false doctrine and false theology? Can you spot a false prophet and those who are preaching and ruling “by their own authority?” One of the key ingredients lacking is the Spirit. If they have no power in their teaching, preaching, and prophesying, be assured it is not of God.

I encourage you to embrace a Berean lifestyle. According to Acts 17:11 “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, because they received the message with goodwill, searching the Scriptures each day to see whether these things were true.” The character of the Berean people was “they received the message (of the gospel from Paul) with goodwill,” and they “searched the Scriptures each day (daily) to see whether these things were true.” They searched the word to confirm what they were being taught as the truth.

I encourage you to get out of the highchair, pick up the fork and spoon and feed yourself from the Word of God. Take responsibility for your spiritual growth in Messiah. The Holy Spirit will mentor you if you seek His help according to John 14:26.

Action: I choose to live a Berean lifestyle of searching the Word daily (through the Choose Life Journal).

Yield: I choose to submit to the mentorship of the Holy Spirit.

Engage: I choose to engage in the lifestyle of daily scripture study.

Relationship: I choose to live a disciplined, holy life in the Messiah with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, I choose to live a submitted life in the power of the Holy Spirit unto You. Lead and guide me. Order my steps. In Yeshua’s mighty name, amen.

Memory Verse: Acts 17:11 “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, because they received the message with goodwill, searching the Scriptures each day to see whether these things were true.” TLV
