Where does my help come?

Prayer: Father, I have called on You many times. You have not answered my call in the time frame I have wanted, but You have always been there and always answered. You are my help! Amen.

Reading: Psalm 121 key: vs. 1-2
A Song of Ascents.
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains—
from where does my help come?
My help comes from Adonai,
Maker of heaven and earth.

Attention: Have you ever had someone who “shadowed” your every move? The psalmist claims that,

“Adonai is your Keeper. Adonai is your shadow at your right hand (vs.5).”

Most of us are unaware that Adonai is our shadow and our Keeper. Notice that Keeper is capitalized, so the He the psalmist is referencing the Divine. Most of us were unaware that our parents shadowed us as toddlers and kept us from running out into the street and from apparent danger. They were our shadow and keepers as our parents. If you have children, you have experienced this same role. I am sure you could share stories of sparing your child from harm or danger. You could also share stories of being milli-seconds late. Adonai is never late, never early, but is always right on time.

The psalmist makes another claim,

“Adonai will protect you from all evil. He will guard your life (vs. 7).”

Has there ever been a better time for us to claim His protection from evil? I want to point you to some additional protection which Adonai provides for us. It is found in Ephesians 6:10-18. There is armor which Paul exhorts us to “Put on.” We would be wise to dress for battle every day.

Are you leaving home every morning not fully dressed, not spiritually dressed? I am reminded of a credit card commercial which used as it’s punch line, “Don’t leave home without it!” We would be wise to do the same.

Lastly the psalmist says,

“Adonai will watch over your coming and your going from this time forth and forevermore (vs. 8).”

What an amazing claim of assurance and comfort, from this day forward and forevermore! Today as you go about your day, acknowledge Adonai’s presence, His shadowing and protection. Give Adonai a grin of acknowledgement throughout the day, and a prayer of appreciation, for we have an all-sufficient Savior (Colossians 1:15-20).

Action: I praise Adonai today for His shadowing caring protection.

Yield: I am yielded when I am acknowledging His watchful, caring protection.

Engaged: I enjoy total care and protection.

Relationship: Hand in hand protection.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being my shadow for all these years. I acknowledge and thank You for Your providential ways. You have been there even when I was not aware. Praise You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains—
from where does my help come?
My help comes from Adonai,
Maker of heaven and earth.
