Who Do You Emulate?

Prayer: Father, I want to be just like You. Loving, caring, and holy. Amen.

Reading: 2 Kings 17 key: vs. 13-14 “Yet Adonai had forewarned Israel and Judah by the hand of every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the Torah which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets.” Yet they would not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not trust in Adonai their God. So they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies that He testified against them. Instead they went after futile things and became futile, following the nations that surrounded them, about whom Adonai had charged them not to emulate.”

Attention: I remember as a teenager a television show which had a character named “Fonzi.” He was cool and became the definition of cool. Young men started combing their hair like Fonzi. Fonzi may not have been the first teenage idol. A singer named Elvis also combed his hair back in a style like Fonzi. Regardless, teen boys all over the nation “emulated” Elvis and Fonzi.

To emulate a person or behavior, is to copy, imitate, mimic, mirror, or follow. Adonai commanded or charged the people of Israel, not to emulate their pagan practices. We are being spoken to through the stories recorded in the Old and New Testament.

I remember as a child, emulating my father. I constantly followed him around helping him with tasks like washing the family car. I looked up to him. It is natural to seek the attention and affirmation of our earthly father. Even Yeshua sought to please His Father and to emulate Him. The apostle John records Yeshua saying, “Therefore Yeshua answered them, “Amen, amen I tell you, the Son cannot do anything by Himself. He can do only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise (John 5:19).”

May we emulate what we see Yeshua doing and what He commands us to do. May we be vigilant to be conformed to His image.

Action: I choose to become conformed to the image of Yeshua.

Yield: I choose to yield to the transforming and conforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Word and the Spirit in the process of being transformed and conformed to the image of Yeshua.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, Your Word is powerful and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. My desire is to honor You and emulate You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Romans 8:29 “For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” TLV
