Prayer: Father, help me to always be cognizant of the enemy of my soul. You introduce him to us from the beginning and tell us of his demise in the conclusion of Your Word. He is an enemy and not our friend. In the name of Yeshua, amen.
Reading: Genesis 3 key: vs. 1
But the serpent was shrewder than any animal of the field that Adonai Elohim made. So it said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from all the trees of the garden’?”
Attention: If you are a parent or are an adolescent, we all understand Chapter 3 of Genesis. We all have been told, either by our parents or as a child, not to do something. Obedience is not innate, sin is. Since the fall or disobedience of our great grandparents, Adam and Eve, we carry their sin gene. We are prone to sin.
The world characterizes the Devil, Satan, as innocent, friendly, fun, or non-existent. In the 1995 film, The Usual Suspects, actor Kevin Spacey’s character utters the line, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”
I find it interesting that in God’s instruction book, through Moses, He tells us of our grandparents and their interaction with a serpent who is none other than the devil or Satan. Satan is a transliteration of Hebrew word meaning “adversary.” Here is a partial list of the character traits of Satan, the devil, which Adonai declares to us in the Bible:
- A Liar John 8:44
- An Accuser Revelation 12:10
- A Thief John 10:10
- A Disguiser 2 Corinthians 11:14
- A Roaring Lion 1 Peter 5:8-9
Who are we going to believe when it comes to Satan’s character? Hebrews 6:16-18 encapsulates the character of God (emphasis on vs. 18b), “it is impossible for God to lie.” God is telling the truth about our adversary.
Never have I in my almost 7 decades of life on the earth, witnessed a manifestation of evil and chaos like the convergence of schemes in the past couple of years. I believe all orchestrated by evil one.
I pray that your eyes will be opened about the source of evil in the world. Through Moses, God introduced us to him in the opening chapters of Genesis.
Action: I acknowledge that Satan is a liar, deceiver and the father of lies. I choose to listen to God and His Word in identifying who our enemy is.
Yield: I yield to the wisdom and veracity (truth) of God.
Engage: I am engaged daily with the Word of God.
Relationship: By engaging with the Word of God, I am showing the enemy my allegiance to God.
Prayer: Father, I listen to You. I believe You because You are truth, and You cannot lie. Your nature does not allow You to lie, because You are truth. Thank You for exposing and identifying our enemy. Amen.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 6:18b
in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
