Wiser!

Prayer: Father, oh, that I would see what the psalmist sees in Your Mitzvot (commandments) and Torah (The Law). Not only am I wise to heed and obey, I become wise when I know Your law and keep it. Amen.

Reading: Psalms 119:97-128 key: vs. 97-100
97 O how I love Your Torah!
It is my meditation all day.
98 Your mitzvot make me wiser than my enemies
—for they are mine forever.
99 I have more insight than all my teachers,
for Your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I have gained more understanding than all my elders,
for I have kept Your precepts.

Attention: Did you know the scriptures have much to say about wisdom? The king who asked Adonai for wisdom, was granted wisdom by God, and is considered the wisest man who ever lived. In fact, this king begins the book named after him with these words, the purpose of his proverb is:

“To acquire wisdom and discipline,
to understand the words of insight,
to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice, and fairness,
to give discernment to the naïve, knowledge and discretion to the youth (let the wise listen and increase learning and the discerning obtain wise counsel)
to understand a proverb and a puzzle, the saying of the wise and their riddles (Proverbs 1:2-6).”

Wisdom is one of the qualities which is sought after but tends to be elusive to most of us. Our choices suffer because we lack discernment. Yet the psalmist tells us this morning that the scriptures (the mitzvot) “make me wiser than my enemies….and I have more insight than all my teachers…. I have gained more understanding than all my elders.”

Be aware of anyone who is operating in their own wisdom, for he is already woefully lacking in wisdom. The psalmist acknowledges that he has a distinct advantage when he knows the scriptures. He is wiser than his enemies, more insightful that all his teachers, and has a knowledge from the divine which supersedes age.

I hope that you have noticed that our reading schedule is set up in 4 tracks, a New Testament track which we did in ’21, a Wisdom track this year, and two tracks for the Old Testament in ’23 & ’24. Not only is it wise to study, know and heed scripture in our pursuit of Adonai, but it is important in our pursuit of Yeshua. Remember, it was “wise men” who sought to find Him at His birth! It is wise men, who still seek Him today!

Action: I will not rely on my wisdom but will study the scriptures to acquire wisdom for my choices in life.

Yield: I give myself to the wisdom from above.

Engage: I am engaging with the Holy Spirit in making wise choices by studying the scriptures.

Relationship: I yield myself to the wisdom from above.

Prayer: Father, I seek Your wisdom above mine. May this always be true. Amen.

Memory Verse: Jacob (James) 3:17
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical.
